Look Mommy, The Stars!!!- Graco Glow In The Dark Toddler Bed
My two youngest sons love anything that has to do with Space. So, when we bought our new house last year, we decided to decorate their bedroom in that theme. We put the glow in the dark stars, planets and moon on the ceiling, we put glow in the dark star and moon light switch and outlet plates, we added two moon shaped night lights, and my husband even hung a variety of planes with fishing line from the ceiling. Their room is really cute.
So when it came time to buy my youngest a toddler bed, the Graco Glow In The Dark Toddler Bed fit the bill perfectly.
Matress
The Graco Glow In The Dark Toddler Bed requires a standard crib size mattress. Being that we were making the transition from the crib to the toddler bed, we just took the one from the crib and used it with the bed. But, if you don't already have one, you will have to purchase one separately.
****Note: Crib mattresses run anywhere for $30 to way over $100. All depending on the quality and thickness. The can be purchases almost anywhere toddler beds are sold.
(This goes the same for bedding. You can either use the same ones that you used for your crib or you can purchase theme sets that are actually for Toddler Beds. They come in less "baby" patterns and are more for your growing little one.)
Set- up-
Setting up your toddler bed is very simple. It does require minor installation, but nothing more complicated that anyone can do. All it entails is screwing the bed frame together. It probably will take you about 10-15 minutes at the most.
The Frame-
The frame is made of steel or aluminum. Put the pieces together with all the nuts, bolts and screws and you will have the frame of the bed.
I wanted to talk about a piece of the frame that I really was not sure of when I first bought this bed, but have since realized that it is not an issue at all.
After you have put your frame together, a pre cut piece of Hard cardboard lays on top as the base. At first I thought, "What a cheap piece of junk!!!! Couldn't they of at least used a cheap piece of plastic?" But in all reality, this has NOT been an issue at all. We have had this toddler bed for over a year and that piece of cardboard is still sturdy and in tact. My son is a BIG boy.... so I feel really confident in saying that if it can hold up to a toddler of his size sleeping in there without any problems, it will hold up to the use of your child sleeping in there as well.
(There is steel poles going horizontal from one side of the bed frame to the other, so that is where the real support comes from. The cardboard is actually just to make it a solid piece instead of having open slots.)
The Headboard-
The headboard is made of thick, sturdy plastic. It is rounded on the top and is white and blue. In the blue part there is glow in the dark stars and a moon on it. This is really cute!
My son really loves when we first turn out the lights at night and not only is his entire ceiling lit up from the glow in the dark stars, but that his bed is as well.
(The stars on his bed tend to glow longer than the ones that we have on the ceiling, I am not sure as to why... just thought I would add that.)
Footboard-
The footboard is made of the same heavy plastic as the headboard. It is rounded and looks nice, but there is nothing special about it.
If there was one thing that I had to change about this bed it would probably be with this. I think they should have put some of those glow in the dark stars on the inside of the footboard so that your child could see them glowing in the dark from laying down and not have to sit up to see them on the headboard. But who knows, I am sure as updated models of this bed come out (and maybe it already has as far as I know) they will end up adding that feature on.
The bed Rails-
The Graco Glow In The Dark Toddler Bed comes with two bed rails, one for each side. This is a wonderful feature. Most of the other toddler beds I have owned or seen on the market either come with just 1 or NONE at all. In most instances, you end up having to buy the bed rails separate. This ends up costing you around $15- $20 more dollars PER rail. And those that you purchases separately aren't custom, so they don't ever fit perfectly.
The bed rails are made of sturdy plastic. These custom rails are removable and fit firmly and securely by snapping into place. (I very rarely find the need to take them off, but if you want to remove them for changing the bed or any other reason, they are very easily removed. Just snap out and then back in when you want them back up.)
Cleaning-
Cleaning your Graco Glow In The Dark Toddler Bed is very easy, simply wash down with a damp clothes. The only time that you will really have a need to clean the pieces of this bed is if you let your little one have milk or juice in bed and he spills it on the rails or headboard. (which my little one has done on several occasions) All I did was wipe it down with a cloth and it looked good as new.
That is about it. We love it. The Graco Glow In The Dark Toddler Bed is a way to give your little one a bed with a little something special on it. Kids love themes and this bed helped make our "Space Themed" bedroom that much more special.
We are very pleased with the looks, price and quality of this toddler bed. If you are getting ready to make the adjustment from crib to toddlerbed in your home, be sure to stop and take a look at the Graco Glow In The Dark Toddler Bed, I think you and your toddler will fall in love this little bed.
