Star Light, Star Bright
Tough to put together right
I wish I may, I wish I might
Purchased a different bed last night!
Actually the bed isn't that bad but I do wish I had tried a different one out. We purchased this particular bed because Toys R Us has had coupons for $$ off all their toddler beds and the selection is pretty slim. Our choices were this bed, the Little Tykes Roadster bed and one other one. This bed was the cheapest by $50.00
The box itself was very compact and not too heavy. It fit inside the back of our Volvo 240 DL. I carried it up to my son's room to assemble it and was pleased by the careful packaging of the materials.
The bed comes with a head board and foot board that are made of blow molded plastic. They are held up by plastic tubes. The frame of the bed consists of 2 long tubular steel poles (white) and about 6 or 7 shorter ones. The shorter ones fit into the longer ones. This was my first obstacle to assembling this bed. The smaller poles kept falling out and one didn't quite fit snugly into the longer poles.
After a few expletives and clanging, I was able to get the supports situated for the next step. The directions say to gently lift one end of the metal supports and rest it on the footboard. Well I did that and the metal supports came crashing down. One more try and I was able to get the hex bolt in and secure it. The headboard was next with no problem.
It took me about 45 minutes to assemble the entire bed and attach the stars to the headboard. The stars are plastic and glow in the dark. You snap them into the underside of the blue plastic wedge and then screw the blue piece into the headboard.
The bed also came with 2 plastic side bed rails that just snapped onto the metal frame. These are sturdy and come down about 2/3rd's of the bed. The bed is rather low to the ground and easy enough for my 2 year old to get in and out of.
The only real problem I have with this bed is their idea of a support. They provide you with a piece of cardboard to lay over the metal bars before you place the mattress down. While I was suprised at this and a little dismayed, it seems strong enough to hold him. He even jumped on the bed and didn't come crashing through. The instructions do say that this bed in intended for children over 15 months old and not over 50 pounds.
The stars and moon did glow when we turned off the light at bedtime. They hadn't been exposed to any real light but still cast a soft glow. The glow should last for 20 minutes. This provided a distraction for my son who kept looking at the stars and moon for about 5 minutes.
For the price and given that we had a coupon, I guessed I somewhat pleased with this bed. It looks nice and seems sturdy enough but we haven't had it that long. My son likes to lay in it and it provides a neutral decor.
But that Roadster bed is still really cute!!!
