| amykhar's Full Review: Graco Glow-in-the Dark Toddler Bed |
My 21-month-old daughter is active, to say the least. It is some indication of her temperament that one of her first spoken phrases was, "go, go, go!". Consequently, I was in no major hurry to move her out of her crib and into a bed. When I had my fourth baby, I went so far as to borrow a second crib from a friend in order to keep Katie in hers. However, while surfing on Epinions one day, I noticed the Graco Glow-in-the-Dark Toddler Bed , and fell instantly in love.
Katie is fixated on the moon. She looks for moon pictures everywhere she goes, and even watches the "Big Comfy Couch" on television simply to see the moon and stars at the end. Her ceiling is covered with glow-in-the-dark stars, and her favorite book is Goodnight, Moon . When I saw the moon and stars on this little toddler bed, I made up my mind that this was the bed for Katie. I purchased the bed at Baby Depot for $69. I have not been disappointed.
Features
The main feature that makes this bed stand out from all other toddler beds is, of course, the headboard. The headboard is a blue background with a glow-in-the-dark moon and several stars. Set against the white frame of the bed, this headboard is cute to say the least. In addition, the bed comes with two siderails and mattress guards that keep the mattress in place. The headboard and footboard are plastic, while the legs and frame are lightweight metal.
Ease of Assembly
My husband and I had this bed together in approximately thirty minutes. Most of the bed was a breeze to put together. The instructions were clear, the parts were easily identifiable, and the included wrench worked quite well. The only problem we encountered when installing was putting the bottom part of the frame together. The bottom of the bed is two long poles and several cross bars. The cross bars did not want to stay in their holes without some force. After a few taps with a hammer, and a few minutes of mild swearing, the pieces did finally fit in place.
Product Quality
A wooden bed would be nicer, of course. However, this bed seems durable enough. My only real complaint was the flimsy piece of cardboard that goes under the mattress. I have visions of my active baby ripping that cardboard to pieces.
Cons
Overall, the only con that I can find for this bed is the price. The bed is not much different from the Graco Cozy Bed , and yet is quite a bit more expensive. At BabyGear.com, the Cozy Bed sells for $55, while the Glow-in-the-Dark is $80. The only difference I can see between the two is the blue background with the moon and stars.
My Conclusion
The Graco Glow-in-the-Dark toddler bed is adorable, easy to assemble, and of reasonable quality. I personally am happy with the purchase, and did not mind paying extra for the stars. Katie loves her new bed, and transitioned quite happily from her crib. If you don't love the moon and stars, stick with the cozy bed. You will get basically the same bed for a much lower price.
