Space… I need more of it! *understatement* Recently I experienced the need to add an additional method of seating for the youngest attendees within our in-home daycare/preschool. Rather than acquire another high chair contraption, we decided to purchase a Tot-Loc® chair. We owned one year’s back and remembered liking it. This option would allow us to keep the seat in place during the day, but fold it and store it for evenings and weekends.
We are pleased with the purchase of the Graco Tot-Loc® Chair With Tray and recommend it for families that desire a portable seating option.
Graco Tot Loc® Chair With Tray
For children up to 37 lbs.
What is a Tot-Loc®?
The Graco Tot Loc® Chair is an apparatus intended as a highchair alternative. Because it collapses and weighs less than 10 lbs. it is a great alternative for on-the-go options, or in lieu of a cumbersome highchair. In my situation – in home daycare/preschool – it allows for an additional infant/toddler seating option without expending additional floor space. When Chels was younger we liked the fact that the Graco Tot-Loc® was portable, allowing us to take it to grandma’s, restaurants, and dinner engagements at friends homes. Although I prefer a traditional highchair as the principle feeding companion, this chair provides an excellent secondary option.
If your child can sit upright unassisted and weighs 37 lbs. or less, this chair is an option you might consider. This portable hook-on seat attaches to your existing table or eating counter. Please note that the table must be between 5/8” and 2 ½” thick. You can’t use the Graco Tot Loc® Chair on glass table tops, loose table tops, card tables, a table leaf, or on top of tablecloths/placemats. Please be sure that the table you are using is stable and that the Tot Loc® Chair is securely clamped into place. The tips of the chair must be securely attached to the table. This chair shouldn’t be used with children that can move the chair positioning.
This chair can be cleaned with soap and warm water, or a baby wipe. The vinyl covering on the seat allows the unit to be thoroughly cleansed. Our chair has a blue tone background – ‘party’ http://www.gracobaby.com/Images/gracobaby/ProductModels/3045P5.jpg – and is embellished with various sketched animal patterning. I appreciate the mellow appearance, because it allows this chair to blend in. The main frame of the Tot-Loc® is navy blue. Graco® recommends frequent examination of the unit to insure no tears, loose screws, or other worn parts. Please follow this practice for all baby equipment and toys.
The positive locking clamp is easy for adults to use, allowing for a tight fit onto the table – yet a painless release also. Hooking the Tot-Loc® onto a table surface is easy. You position the bar on the table top, allow the clamping tube to slide under table edge, squeeze the clamping tube – at the rear of the chair – until the Tot-Loc® is securely clamped onto the table. At this point you should try pulling on the chair, checking to make sure it doesn’t slide. Unhooking the Tot-Loc® requires squeezing the clamp tube and pressing the latch tail. At this point you might choose to fold the unit and can accomplish this by pushing in the red tab/latch on the right side of the chair.
Please make sure there is an appropriate space between the table edge and opening for your child’s legs. Once your child is positioned in the seat, please clasp the security belt. This three-point buckle restraint is adjustable. I feel the buckle is easy to clasp, and I like this configuration better than the simplistic one our old Tot-Loc® had – of course that was 10 years ago.
A wonderful attribute is the inclusion of a tray. Our tray is navy blue, and very easy to clean. One con is that it is hard to snap into place. Perhaps this is a double-edge thingie… this also makes it slightly difficult to remove, thus prohibiting little hands from flinging it off. We all know how young ones like to paint rooms with meal substance! Try as she may, the little one is unable to remove this tray… hee, hee, hee. OOPS! This also means that there isn’t a chance in heck of removing the soiled tray without spillage *frown*… guess the jokes on me. *sigh* Oh well… I still appreciate inclusion of the tray with the Tot-Loc®, and rest with the fact that the tray doesn’t have to be removed prior to getting the child out.
Happy Parenting!
