| adrianm190's Full Review: The Wharf Executive Suites Hotel |
My 2003/04 trip to Hong Kong was flawless through the hospitality and elegance displayed by the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The hotel is remarkable in every aspect, catering for leisure and business travelers. From a stunning, lavish lobby to stylish guest accommodation and welcoming, affable staff, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is truly a home away from home.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong offers eight restaurants and bars, five hundred and fifty-six rooms, seventy percent of which command harbor view. Superior facilities combined with high standard service combine to create a deluxe five star hotel. The harbor view is recommended as it offers superb views of Kowloon and the Exhibition Center.
Limousine Transfer to the Hotel:
Proceeding our landing, we approached the Hyatt Limousine Desk at Hong Kong airport. A courteous, well-attired man advised me that our arranged limousine was equipped and fit to fulfill the transfer. Handing over my luggage, I trailed the attendant to the Mercedes S350 limousine who carefully transported it into the boot. Moreover, the driver greeted the two of us and headed off toward the hotel. The limousine was spotless, comfortable and maintained to an optimum standard. Arriving at Grand Hyatt, I proceeded to the lobby to complete the check-in process.
The Lobby:
Grand Hyatts lobby is simply outstanding. It consists of exquisite marble columns combined with black marble floor and rich reception desks. A central Christmas tree surrounded by two extensive antiques were prevalent. Two towering marble staircases, approaching the mezzanine level created ambience and sincere beauty. The superb aesthetics and decorations provided a welcoming and warm sensation among us. A small water feature, near the elevators add atmosphere to the lobby.
Check-in:
My wife and I booked a Grand Club Suite, located in the prestigious Grand Club enclave. At the reception desk, a welcoming concierge directed us to the Grand Club Lounge, providing exclusive check-in. Within the Grand Club Lounge, a concierge checked us in efficiently and with a most welcoming attitude. The concierge clarified any questions and showed us to our rooms. A minute elapsed and our luggage was delivered.
Guest Accommodation:
The Grand Club Suite was situated on the twenty-ninth level. The hotel room offered breathtaking views of Victoria Harbor in both the living room and bedroom. All equipment was operational and the furniture was in superior condition. The lighting provided in the room was of a substantial standard. Upon entering the suite, the bedroom and living room were spotless. The Grand Club Suite was equipped with features such as a DVD player, confidential fax machine, walk-in close, hairdryer, 6-inch LCD color television in the bathroom, separate shower and bathtub and a fully stocked mini-bar. Additional standard features including high-speed internet access and interactive television were provided. Upon entering a marble entrance, the living room is prevalent. It consists of a desk chair, a brownish, two-seater sofa, a brown sofa and a small cushion style chair with no back support. The walls are of a cream color and adorned with a mirror and many images. The bathroom was equipped with the necessary amenities and the gold-plated fixtures added style and sophistication to the room. The bedroom was of a satisfactory size, offering plenty of space. One complaint revolving the bedroom is the location of the walk-in closet. It is located directly in front of the bathroom entrance and therefore interferes with the operation of the room. Overall, however the Grand Club Suite lived up to its name with furnished equipment and advanced technology. The room accommodates with luxury and style.
An additional complaint revolving the suite is the size. The room would prove more luxurious in the circumstance further space was provided. However, the suite remains comfortable and welcoming despite the issue.
Grand Club:
Utilizing Grand Club offers various advantages such as access to an exclusive lounge, private concierge and added room features. Grand Hyatt Hong Kong consists of eight grand club floors and the majority are accessed by private glass lifts. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the special lifts as they are located on level thirty, whereas I remained on level twenty-nine. A DVD player and step machine are the specific features that distinguish normal rooms to grand club rooms. A DVD collection is available in the lounge. Buffet breakfast at the Grand Club lounge was superior, offering a combination of Chinese and international cuisine. From an exclusively wide range of fruit and cereal to pastries and five different hot meals, breakfast was made special through the scrumptious food and excellent service provided through four waiters. The view from the lounge is breathtaking and is split into smoking and non-smoking segments. The lounge appears rich and superb in aesthetics. Hors d'oeuvres were also a mouthwatering experience as wide variety such as sausages, spring rolls, duck and desserts were provided.
The Grand Club concierge are situated on level thirty while a winding staircase leads into the lounge on level thirty-one. Level twenty-nine is connected to level thirty through a staircase. Passing through the reception, I was greeted happily and sincerely consistently. The concierge fulfilled their task with dignity as they were efficient, courteous and helpful.
Facilities:
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong commands a spectacular 1.5 acre roof garden, linked to the Renaissance Harborview Hotel. Superior facilities such as a golf driving range, jogging track, fitness center and two tennis courts adds additional luxury to any holiday. Unfortunately, during the time period the swimming pool was closed due to remodeling work. Features such as the swimming pool however do not operate during the winter seasons.
The business center is a businessman's paradise. Grand Hyatt Hong Kong had a designated team of professionals to assist whenever necessary. Throughout my use of the center, I was greeted with warmness and courtesy. Features such as Internet access, computer workrooms, video facilities, meeting rooms and even a library made the business center outstanding.
Restaurants:
The hotel boasts a large array of cuisines through the many restaurants available. The Grand Café is an informal restaurant offering a variety of foods including buffet breakfast and dinner buffet from Thursday to Sunday. The lobby floor restaurant offers excellent service, however as always it results in a high price.
The Tiffin Lounge offers lunch buffet and a variety of afternoon snacks positioned in a spacious restaurant. The dessert and afternoon tea buffet is thoroughly enjoyable and live music is offered throughout the day.
The level two restaurant labeled Grissini offers a variety of Italian cuisine. A lunch buffet is a spectacular feature on Sundays and additional delights include a wine gallery and panoramic views of Victoria Harbor.
Kaetsu offers contemporary Japanese food within a modern environment. Buffet lunch and dinner are offered on Saturday and Sunday and a sushi counter situated near the entrance of the restaurant is available for guests. The furniture reflects sophistication and a splendid atmosphere is set within the spacious restaurant.
One Harbor Road specializes in Chinese food, commanding views of Victoria Harbor. A small garden appears to grow in the restaurant and the dishes are of an outstanding quality. They are prepared with dignity and care and combine quality Chinese food and elegance to establish a splendid dish.
A champagne bar is also available for guests. JJ's is also located within the entrance to Grand Hyatt.
Service:
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong offers outstanding service throughout the hotel, with emphasis on Grand Club staff. My only complaint relating to service revolves around the bellboy services whom at times do not open the front doors for hotel guests. Alternatively, they remain crowded around their desk in the spectacular lobby. The cleaners were of a welcoming nature and swift response to queries or requests were prevalent. As expected in a five star hotel, the staff spoke clear and concise English.
Location:
The hotel is not overly convenient in comparison to hotels at Pacific Place or Causeway Bay. However, for the business traveler, Grand Hyatt offers direct connection to the Exhibition Center. A bus station is located within walking distance and there are numerous taxis available at the hotel. As Wanchai is a business district, office buildings surround the vicinity. The Grand Hyatt is a fair distance to the Wanchai MTR station. However, a shopping area and a bar district can be found in the area following a five to fifteen minute walk. The taxi stand located at the elegant front entrance of the hotel consists of several readily available taxis.
Conclusion:
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a deluxe hotel that caters for leisure and business travelers. My holiday was thoroughly successful through the excellence of the hotel and skillful nature displayed. Grand Hyatt is Hyatt's International flagship property and through my six night, seven day stay, I thoroughly understood why. The only issue confronting many families will be the overly expensive room rates.
