Pros: Location, cost, Location, beach, and, oh yes, Location! It's on the beach!

The Bottom Line: Great location, right on the beach. Comfy lodging. Reasonable price. All of that says it all... STAY HERE!

| psimon's Full Review: Grande Shores Ocean Resort |
After more than a dozen years going to the beach in the Bethany Beach Delaware area, we decided to branch out and try something new. After searching numerous hotel sites, the AAA tour book and few trip advisory sites, we settled on the Grande Shores. We weren't sorry.
This hotel is right on the beach. Walk through the pool area and through a gate and you are on the beach! Extremely convenient. The beach is not very wide here, but from what I have seen, it doesn't seem to be very wide anywhere in Myrtle Beach. The hotel is located at 77th street... at the north end of a long line of hotels. To the North of the hotel are homes, so if you have a North facing room, you have a beautiful view of the coast.
Yes, the hotel is located on 77'th street. Much of Myrtle Beach (Broadway at the Beach, the shopping outlet center, the airport) and other "activities" are below 20'th street, but there are numerous eateries and mini-golf locations all along Kings Highway all the way down to there so you are not out in the middle of nowhere. There is also plenty to do to the north of the Grande Shores location, such as Barefoot Landing and shopping outlets and another regular mall, so you really are in the middle of everything!
Our accommodations were the 3 bedroom unit. The master bedroom had a king bed and its own bathroom with a tub/shower. There was a second bathroom in the hallway for the rest of the "residents". The second bedroom was also a king size bed. The third bedroom had two double beds. Each of the three bedrooms had their own TV as well as a TV in the living room. Also, with the living room TV, there was a combo VCR / DVD player. There was a full kitchen stocked with pots, pans, dishware and silverware, as well as a washer/dryer in the closet in the kitchen. This layout fit our family of five perfectly.
Each unit comes with unlimited high speed internet, though ours was flakey for the first couple of days. It settled down during the second part of our week there.
The hotel has two outdoor pools (one at beach level and one on the 7th floor roof), two "lazy rivers" (again, one in each location, but the one at beach level was much better than the upstairs one). There were also 4 hot tubs on the roof level. At the downstairs pool, there is both a snack bar and a bar. From hot dogs and burgers to Pina Coladas and Margarita's you won't starve at the pool.
There is a 7 level parking garage adjacent to the hotel. There is a small gym with 6 workout machines. There was also a small cafe downstairs that served breakfast and dinner but I can't comment on it as we never dined there.
Maid service was there every morning about 9:30! Too bad we hadn't left yet and always had to send them away. They usually came back around 2PM and were in and out in no time. They always did a nice job of cleaning up the place.
Would I come back? Most likely, yes. The price of our room was reasonable (though I must say that most lodging in Myrtle Beach seems very reasonable). For a family of 5, our accommodations fit us perfectly. We couldn't think of anything we were missing. The negative we had was that, though we had a non-smoking room (as posted on the outside of our front door) the master bathroom smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Whether that was from a previous resident, or being sucked in from another room, I can't say.
Bottom line... for a comfortable stay at a reasonable price, check out the Grande Shores hotel. It's location on the beach, with a residential area just to the north makes it a perfect spot. I don't think you will be sorry!
