I have a kidney stone and for some reason this very common problem has become a pain in the you know what. Not for me so much (yeah, it sucks and all...) but mostly for the doctors. Why? Because I was first diagnosed with kidney stones right here in my little city hospital. By CT scan and x-ray. You would think that that would be good enough for the "big city" doctors in Syracuse but no. It would appear that the big city doctors don't think much of my little city doctors because they had to have their own test done to determine if I had a kidney stone. So an IVP x-ray is ordered which means that starting yesterday I had to go on a clear liquid diet because my IVP was scheduled for 9am this morning. Oh, and on top of the liquid diet I had to take 4 laxatives last night somewhere between 6pm and 8pm. Yes, laxatives that didn't take effect until 4:45 this morning. So, I wake up this morning after having been to the bathroom several times during the night, can't eat anything and am only allowed some water. I then drive through awful traffic for an hour to get to the big city hospital. I get the procedure done (piece of cake) and now I'm absolutely starved. But do I have time to go down to the hospital cafeteria and get something to eat? No... the procedure is done just in enough time for my appointment with the big city urologist across the street. You know, the doctor who wasn't sure that the tests already done here in my little city were correct. All I had enough time to do was grab something out of a vending machine and I just so happened to grab Grandma's Peanut Butter Cookies.
All About Grandma's Peanut Butter Cookies
Grandma's Peanut Butter Cookies are put out by Frito Lay and come in a variety of flavors. Obviously I chose peanut butter but you can also get chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, iced lemon, and sugar just to name a few.
This packet of Grandma's Peanut Butter Cookies comes 2 in a pack and they are a good size. Definitely enough to tide you over until your next meal. They do contain wheat, peanuts and egg ingredients so if you are allergic to any of those you will want to stay away from these cookies.
The other ingredients in these cookies are:
Enriched Flour (bleached and unbleached wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), peanut butter (roasted peanuts, sugar, hydrogenated [canola, soybean, and/or cottonseed] oil, salt, molasses), sugar, high fructose corn syrup, vegetable shortening (partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil), modified food starch, sodium bicarbonate, salt, whole eggs, artificial vanilla flavor, caramel color.
Nutrition Facts
The nutrition facts listed on the back of the package give information for either 1 serving (1 cookie) or the entire package (2 cookies). I'll list the information for 2 cookies because most people that I know will eat both the cookies once they taste them.

Why I Recommend Grandma's Peanut Butter Cookies
I have always liked Grandma's Homestyle Cookies and the peanut butter kind are one of my favorites. I think what I really like about them is that there aren't any actual peanut bits in them. They are a nice, smooth, soft cookie that is pretty darn close to homemade. They are also very tasty and it's a good thing I've only been able to find these in packages of 2 because I could and probably would eat more than what is healthy.
As much as I love these cookies though they are far from the most healthy snack one could have but I suppose they aren't too bad. There are certainly less healthy options out there, especially when all I had to choose from were items from a vending machine. These cookies are definitely more healthy than the Nestle Crunch bar I was eyeing but not as healthy as the cereal snack bar that was also an option. Either way, I was happy with my choice and the fact that it held me over until I could get a real meal, especially considering how long it had been since I had eaten, is quite impressive.
Oh, and the results of the IVP x-ray?? Yep, there really is a kidney stone there. Wow, looks like my small city hospital isn't so incompetent after all.
