| Profilewriter's Full Review: Gray's Papaya |
Kramer, Seinfeld's free-spirited neighbor, is famous for his healthy eating. In one episode he saved an eye doctor from a sugar addiction and in several he sings the praises of fruit. But even Kramer fell under the spell of Grey Papaya's hot dogs. Once, he even gave up his place in a movie ticket line to run over for a fix.
Kramer is not alone. At every hour of the day, there is a line out the door of Grey Papaya's Upper West Side storefront.
Crowds come for the cheap chow -- just a couple of bucks for two hot dogs and a smoothie. The hot dogs, always fresh off the grill, keep them coming back.
Grey Papaya's fare is good alternative to "dirt water dogs," a mostly affectionate term for the dogs peddled by street vendors. Lately, for some reason, the street variety of dog is being served stone cold. So, for those addicted to wieners, a wait in line will net a far better lunch.
