Great Day for UP, written by Dr.Suess
Pictures by Quentin Blake
This is a Bright and Early book (for beginner readers)
Copyright 1974 by Random House
Book Club Edition

The book starts off with the sun going UP!UP! The different animals getting UP! The girls and women, boys and men getting UP! Feet UP! Kites, baseballs, and footballs UP!A great day to sing Up on a wire (show's picture of the birds on a wire singing), voices louder and higher going UP!Going Up on stairs, ladders and on stilts. Climbing up mountains. The elevators and Alligators UP!

The story covers a variety of people, animals and objects either going up, throwing things up, or noises going up. It is a really cute story which will keep the child's interest, with pictures on every page, nice illustrations of the characters, animals and objects which are in color, with some of the white background showing through, children will enjoy the pictures a lot.
This book is somewhat repetitious, the word UP! is repeated over and over, but I did find that some of the words would be rather hard for an early reader, words such as ferris, wheels, buttercups, and quite a few other words as such. there are not a lot of words one each page.there are 26 pages, some with only a big picture. They make good use of color, in a child-like way. I found this book to be rather fun to read, a very enjoyable book.

My expierence with this book is a rather good one, I bought this book as part of a book club when my now 14 year old daughter was a toddler. I have read it to her on many, many occasions, and even at her age, she still likes the book, (just do not ask her to admit it to any one else). My favorite part of this book are the pictures, there is not enough story plot to hold an adult's interest.
