gregepin04's Full Review: Great States Corp. 16 In. Scotts Elite Push Reel M...
Simple and efficient! The Scott's manual push reel mower is an envitonmentally friendly way to cut grass and get exercise at the same time. Solid construction and simple to use. Cutting height adjustment is fairly simple and is done by turning a pair of screws. Once set...just leave it. The cut is very clean and distributes the cut grass blades evenly in a "spray" pattern(no unsightly clumping). The grass decomposes naturally and feeds the new grass. Assembly is simple and straight-forward, involving connecting the two halves of the handle. No tools needed as the screws have plastic handles to tighten or loosen(when storing or transporting). The only drawbacks are that you can not waith for grass to get too high. At that point the mower will tend to flatten the grass down momentarily...only to pop up later in a ragged pattern. Also, you need a fairly level yard. This mower is NOT best suited for hills and uneven landscapes. The cylinder blade rotates nicely when you build up a moderate walking speed. Slowing down to mow "around" some object makes it twice as hard to do the job. So, if you have a smaller flat yard, the Scott's reel mower is a great choice. No gas needed and practically no maintenance other than cleaning off the blade assembly from time to time. As everything is easy to reach, cleaning is a snap. Brush the dry grass clippings off the mower and spray lightly with WD-40. The mower will last indefinitely.
