skseattle's Full Review: 20" Cordless Electric Mower
First off I did not buy this Homelite 20" mower, it was given to me because it was broken and I have years of training and experience with electromechanical devices. This is how I can tell you about specific, technical issues with this mower. The deck, wheels, height adjustment system and other structural pieces are all decent quality and durable. The rest however... After a very short period in service this mower developed way too many issues. The motor windings were burning out which means the motor doesn't have a chance to continue running without a ridiculous amount of repair or an expensive replacement. Many of the connections (where a wire is plugged into a switch, motor, etc.) were burned up. This not only indicates a possible fire hazzard but also inevetable breakdown. If the connections can't be made well, the power can't reach where it needs to be. The on/off switch was beginning to go bad. The contacts inside that make the electrical connections and bring power to the motor were burned up.
Even if I repaired this thing I couldn't sell it in good conscious. I've gotten all the parts I wanted out of it. The rest of them are going to be recycled.
While looking for another electric mower, knowing the ins and outs of these companies, I personally would look at only Black and Decker or Craftsman first. They have much more experience in quality and performance.
