Those who know me know that I always do my best to save money whenever possible. One of the most efficient ways to save a lot of money is to use store brand or generic products versus name brand products whenever possible. We use a lot of cream cheese around my house so I was happy to discover the Great Value Cream Cheese Spread available from WalMart. It tastes just as good as the Philadelphia Cream Cheese Spread, but costs a lot less.

Whether spreading it on bagels, waffles, toast, graham crackers or veggie sticks, making a cheese ball, or any number of other uses, we enjoy the flavor of this product every bit as much as the brand name equivilant. The creamy texture spreads well on most foods without tearing or breaking your breads, bagels or crackers. 

I love the variety of ways that I can use this. In addition to spreading this on a variety of foods, this also works well in several recipes I have tried. I have used it to make a cheese ball or cheese log, for a couple of different cheesecake type desserts, dessert pizzas, frostings, and for dips. This product is meant for table use only, and should not be used in cooking. Great Value Cream Cheese is also available in the block style which works well in cooking and baking.

Like the spreadable Philadelphia Cream Cheese Spread, this product comes in a plastic tub. After removing the plastic lid, you will need to remove the inner foil seal, then use this spread however you choose. It spreads easily right out of the refrigerator, unlike the harder blocks of cream cheese that need to set out at room temperature for several minutes to warm up. 

GV Cream Cheese Spread is available in an 8 or a 12 ounce tub. We usually buy the 12 ounce size because we go through a lot of this product. You should always store this in the refrigerator, and for best fresheness, and always be sure that the seal is on completely. This will help to prevent any hard pieces that can be caused by exposure to air. Although a carton is generally used up within a couple of days at my house, so I don't generally have any issues with moisture build up. In the event that you see a bit of moisture on top when you open the tub though, simply give it a quick stir and it is ready to use. This is a natural occurance with this and other similar products and in no way affects the quality of the Cream Cheese Spread.

Great Value Cream Cheese Spread is a naturally gluten free food with no artificial colors or flavors. Each two tablespoon serving contains 90 calories, 9 grams fat, 200 mg sodium, 1 gram protein, and 2 grams of carbs. Using this as a topping for your favorite foods can save on calories and sodium from some of the alternatives, plus supplies a bit of added calcium and vitamin A that some other toppings may not have.

In my experience, both Great Value and Equate products from WalMart are consistantly high quality products which are just as good as the name brand products of their kind.
