Pros: Rich, full sound, beautiful looks, well built, very very nice price.
Cons: Made in Korea
I finally made the decision to swap my Seagull S6 cedar top guitar for a Martin DR with a pick-up. I made my 150 mile trip to guitar center and played all sorts of guitars to make sure that the Martin was what I wanted, and, I was convinced that I wasn't going to get a better guitar for under $1,000. On my way out of the acoustic guitar section to purchase the Martin, my friend pulled this Gretsch out that was hidden in a row of Yamahas and played it. He immediately made me put down the Martin to give the Gretsch a try. I was skeptical, and honestly didn't want to like it because I'm not really into the jumbo/sunburst look, I'm more of a natural look person. But this was different. I was immediately convinced that this was the guitar I wanted. The sound was much fuller, it played easier, and the looks grow on ya quick! And when I saw the price tag ($599 with pickups, compared to $749 w/o pickups on the Martin) I headed straight for the counter.
The playability of this guitar is incredible! I've never played an easier-to-play guitar before. And I would say it would be well rounded for any style of music. I play in an acoustic rock band, and it works phenomenally well. I can see it working well for country and blues as well. The looks kind of have a country-style twist to them. The stage presence of the guitar is one of my favorite things about it. But it's just one of those things that can't be described on here. I guess when it comes down to it, all I can really do on here is highly reccomend this outstanding guitar! You can't begin to appreciate any guitar until you hold it in your hands and play it. I know if I saw a review for this guitar on here, I probably wouldn't even consider buying it, but I highly suggest giving this one a shot!
