Have You Any Grey Poupon? Keep It, Cause I don't Want It
Written: Dec 02 '07 (Updated Dec 08 '07)
Pros:Great commercial
Cons:taste, colour and consistency
The Bottom Line: Grey Poupon does not have the spicy taste I like in a mustard.
We do happen to have Grey Poupon so if you ever need some, drop by and ask. This isn't a regular mustard we use. We like Gulden's traditional and it's Honey Mustard that my wife likes. I am also partial to Kosciusko mustard for our Sunday morning Easter breakfast of kielbasa. Now that's a mustard I would drive around town or go door to door looking for.
The 8 oz jar of Grey Poupon's label tells us there is Water, vinegar, mustard seed, salt, white wine, fruit pectin, citric acid, tartaric acid,, sugar and spice and I suppose everything else nice. It's reading of the acids that makes my stomach churn a bit.
The jar highlights the fact that white wine is a key ingredient. The mustard is also South Beach Diet recommended.
It also mentions something about South Beach Diet Phase 1,2,and 3 but I would have to go to a Kraft web site listed on the label for more info. I never looked it up.
I suppose the fact that the product has no carbs or fat and just 5 calories per serving can get those diet people all excited.
To me it's all about taste and sorry, this product does not do anything much for me.
Taste
The product does have a spicy taste that's OK but doesn't deliver the zip or flavor I get out of Guldens or anything near Kosciusko. There is some kind of smooth consistency of the stuff that also turns me off. It's almost creamy. I dunno. That just doesn't do anything for me.
The same goes for the colour. I happen to like a rich hue. This is too pale looking for me. I suppose I'm a stickler when it comes to mustard on things like a hot dog, knish or soft pretzel purchased from a street vendor.
This stuff does nothing for me on a liverwurst sandwich and is an affront to fresh or smoked kielbasa.
So yes, dear neighbor, If you ever have a need for Grey Poupon, walk on over and ask the well know question. I have a jar that's sitting on my refrigerator shelf waiting for a fool, I mean a friend, like you.
