Pros: Medium cost, two speed
Cons: Snipe, poor feed rollers
I have use my 15' planer now for over a year and have no major problems with it. I have planed over 400 board feet of white oak and have yet to need any adjustment or sharpening of the blades. I bought this primarily to use for custom cabinet work, but have found it also quite handy for restoration of antique furniture. My only complaints are that the feed rollers are not efficient at continuous feed, and sometime you have to help the material to get through. This is especially true on the first couple of passes. Snipe is also a problem, even with the bed locks. My best suggestion is to always allow extra material so you can cut off the snipe. I would also suggest a mobile base, as this machine is quite heavy. Chip extraction is excellent with the appropriate dust collector, with no jamming of the chip chute. Although advertised as a minimum thickness of 1/4', I have planed down to 1/8" with no problems.
