Although my taste in beers runs toward the weisse, ales and bocks, Grolsch is a very respectable lager that manages to retain it's integrity in the face of near overcommercialization.
I think that the traditional long necked, porcelain & rubber stopped cap goes a long way in keeping the quality of this beer high throughout the process of storing & shipping. Just don't go crazy and try to open a bottle of Grolsch with your teeth -- you'll wind up thirsty and in need of dental reconstruction.
As good as Grolsch is here, it's even better in Holland, straight from a fresh tap. If ever given the choice, pass up Heineken in favor of this brew every time.
although lagers are fairly direct, Grolsch does have a more complex taste and a lively effervescence. It complements summer as well as winter weather, and the 16 ounce bottles let you know that you're enjoying a quality product.
Although lagers aren't my favorite, this is among my favorite lagers.
Grotjes, Grolsch!
