algpro's Full Review: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Gama + Guitar) f...
I got Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock a couple months after it was released and I loved it. The game had cost me about $100 although the price has lowered to about $40 I believe. The setup comes with a wireless guitar, the Guitar Hero 3 game itself, a neckstrap, and stickers to customize your guitar. The guitar is black and white and has a detachable neck allowing for easy storage. The song list is great and somewhat lengthy, and although online play isn't great and lacks players, it's a great feature nevertheless. The price was a little steep, but the fun that I have gotten out of it can't be replaced! The song list on GH3 for Wii is a combination of old and modern rock. You will find songs such as "Slow Ride" and "Paint It Black" as well as newer songs like "Miss Murder". Even though over 70 songs is a lot, they can get repetitive after you have beat each song on each level of difficulty(eay -> medium -> hard -> extreme). The song list is small compared to newer games with song lists of over 400 like Rock Band 2! But if you are someone who is looking for a great game to play with friends, not to worry, a co-op mode will extend the challenge allowing you to play with and against your friend in battles! This is a great way to show off your sick GH skills!Don't forget that this is a Wii game and any Wii gamer knows that a Wii game is incomplete without putting the Wiimote's motion sensing abilities to work. The game uses the Wiimote to sense when you shake your guitar. When you shake the guitar, star power is activated. Star power is gained by hitting multiple consecutive notes. When star power is actived you point multiplier is raised, allowing for higher scores. After about a year of owning the game, my family upgraded from a twenty year old JVC television set to a 37" LCD HDTV. If you own a newer tv and especially if you are just upgrading, it is much harder to play the game on a newer tv. I used to be able to play almost all of the songs on Hard and hitting the notes was a breeze. After geting the new TV, I can barely get 85% on easy. I don't know if it just takes some getting used to, but playing this game is just no more fun for me. That isn't to say that you van do better on a newer TV.Overall GH3: Legends of Rock is an awesome game with a pretty good song list. The only major problem I have is playing on newer TV's, although it may just be me.
