Pros:Sea minerals, dries like a true mask, good skin results
Cons:Too minty, bright blue color can stain
The Bottom Line: Live out your Smurf or Blue Man Group fantasy. This is a nice, refreshing face care mask.
Have you ever been struck with the desire to dress like one of your childhood cartoon characters? Well, maybe when you were 7 years old you did. It wasnt my intention, but I ended up with a strange resemblance to Smurfette when I used ~H2O+s Sea Mineral Mud Mask.

How I heard about it
I was introduced to the ~H2O+ line of skincare and cosmetics by a passenger on a flight from Chicago to Shanghai. Late into the 12 hour flight, the college aged girl sitting near me brought out an intriguing moisturizer (Face Oasis Hydrating Gel) and applied it to her face. We all know how dry our skin eyes and lips become after being exposed to recycled stale air such as that of airplanes. We struck up a conversation and thus, my interest in ~H2O+ began.
~H2O+ is a Chicago-based skincare company that focuses on water based, oil free skincare products. This means that many of the products contain sea minerals, which may be beneficial to skin. Their formula is water + sea-derived ingredients + technology = healthy skin.
They have locations in 5 or 6 states in the U.S., and 19 international countries. In addition to sole ~H2O+ outlets, their products are sold in some Nordstrom and Ulta stores, on the HSN, and via the internet. Sometimes a limited selection of ~H2O+ bath products can be found at TJ Maxx, but their freshness is dubious.
What I got
I ordered a set of many basic, popular facial care items called Oasis Travel Essentials. In this 5 piece set was a 1 fl oz (30 ml) tube of Sea Mineral Mud Mask. The tube itself is pearlized blue with a matte finish clear screw on cap.
Product Usage, Benefits, and Claims
~H2O+ says this is [a] mineral-rich treatment that deep cleans and purifies the skin while stimulating cell renewal. Glamour magazine has said that this product is best for zapping oil. However, ~H2O+ says this is great for oily, combination and dry skin types.
~H2O+ claims this mask benefits you in that:
Kaolin clay naturally draws pore-clogging dirt and oil from skin while aloe vera gel and sea fennel help hydrate and act as anti-inflammatory agents. Sea extracts of dulse, neptune kelp and gigartina reduce the production of excess oil. All this plus soothing allantoin to stimulate cell renewal makes this mask a clear skin must-have.
How to Use, aka Hello Smurfette
To use, ~H2O+ advises you to apply a thick, even layer to a clean face with their mask brush, and obviously avoid your mouth and eyes. It is to be left on for 5 to 10 minutes, then removed with warm water and fingertips or soft facial brush
I use this about once every other week or so. I apply the mask to my face with my fingertips to after washing my face. It is very tingly, thus it may irritate those with sensitive skin. The feel and smell is so minty that it will make your eyes water. The most fun part of this mask is the bright blue color of the mud. It does on your face a shiny blue and dries on your face a vivid, crackly grayish blue. I have startled my husband after walking around waiting for this mask to dry. You will either look like a member of the Blue Man Group or a smurf. I personally think the glamorous Smurfette is the better option.
The mask dries to a Sahara desert type texture. To remove it, splashing water and using your fingertips will not cut it. I dont have a facial brush, so I use a wet washcloth to remove it. The bright blue mud mask will stain a light colored washcloth, so I use a black washcloth.
Does it work?
My skin feels refreshed and deep cleansed after use. It is soft and smooth. I have not seen an increase in blemishes, which usually is the result of a deep cleaning. I do like this product and would recommend it.
