| cikaris's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 2200dse Printer |
The most important thing to consider about the HP Laserjet 2200dse is that it is virtually the same as the Laserjet 2200d. In fact, the body of the 2200dse is marked as the Laserjet 2200d.
The "se" after the "d" probably stands for second edition, but don't quote me on that. The HP website states that the the 2200d is a "base model" and the 2200dse is a "base model with automatic duplex printing." Curiously, the manual that came with my 2200 dse does not mention this. In fact, the manual covers the entire HP 2200 Laserjet series but has no specific mention of the dse. So for all practical purposes the "dse" and the "d" are basically the same printer.
What this means is that the reviews that have been posted for the 2200d are worth reading for information about the 2200dse. There is no need for me to repeat the details of those excellent reviews - especially those written by members "opinionated3" and "sweetcece" and "en7489." You can read them for yourself.
Instead, I will just give a few reasons why I recommend this printer.
REASONS I BOUGHT THE HP LASERJET 2200dse:
First, I needed a new laser printer for my home office. I do a lot of heavy duty word processing and since that does not require color printing, just black and white text, I decided to go with a laser printer.
Second, my previous laser printer, an HP Laserjet 4L was maddeningly slow and felt shoddy to me (I had it because it was given to me for free - Hey, you can't beat that price!).
Third, I wanted to get a printer that I could feel and touch at the store. Since I live close to a Staples outlet, I relied on their selection which includes a lot of HP Laserjets.
Fourth, a good and knowledgeable friend of mind recommended a Lexmark E322 laser printer. I didn't find much about it on the web, however the few reviews it has received say that it is an excellent printer for a lot less than the 2200dse (about 400 dollars versus the 750 I paid for my Laserjet). However Staples didn't carry it and if I wanted to get a cartridge for the E322 I would have had to special order it). Yes, I know that I could have purchased the printer and cartridges over the Internet but I like being able to go to a store and pick something up right away. So I went with an HP.
Fifth, the HP Laserjet 2200dse is well built. Compared to the Laserjet 1000 and 1200 printers, the 2200 seems very solid to me. The 1000 and 1200 seemed flimsy to me when I looked at them at my local Staples outlet. Since I was willing and able to pay for quality, I bought the 2200dse.
Finally, I bought the 2200dse only after reading the reviews for the HP Laserjet 2200 series printers on epinions (Thank you to everyone who posted reviews here).
BASIC FACTS ABOUT THE PRINTER ITSELF
One, the 220dse is FAST - 19ppm, more than enough for me, more than enough for anyone outside of a large business.
Two, did I mention it is well built? It looks, feels, and sounds solid. It has a printing capacity of 40,000 pages per month.
Three, it is compatible with WindowsXP Professional which my new computer came with. Installation of the HP Laserjet 2200dse was a breeze - no downloads, no CD, nothing. It installed itself when my I turned my computer back on.
Four, it has the capacity for double-sided printing which I haven't used yet but the fact that it is there is nice.
Five, overall print quality is excellent - true 1200dpi.
Six, it features USB connectivity for faster printing.
Seven, it is ready for printing as soon as you turn it on. I really like that.
Eight, it has 8MB of memory which is plenty for most people. If you want more, it can be upgraded to 72MB.
Nine, it has two paper trays - a 250 sheet main tray on the bottom and a 100 sheet auxiliary paper tray in the front.
Ten, it is backed up by HP's service and support.
There are many other reasons for buying the HP Laserjet 2200dse. I just listed my reasons for buying it. For other reasons, you can click on the "view details" line for this printer on epinions or consult the HP website. Also I strongly recommend that you read the aforementioned reviews for the 2200 series printers posted on epinions.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my HP Laserjet 2200dse printer and give it two thumbs up.
