Pros: It does all of its functions well and was easy to set up and maintain.
Cons: A bit noisy on some functions.
The Bottom Line: I have few complaints about this all-in-one machine--slight noise problem but otherwise it's a great way to save space and get the most use out of one machine.
briandalsmom's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 3320n mfp Printer
I work in an office that has some great printersall HPs as thats the only printer were allowed to buy (for good reason). When we recently needed to replace a small copy machine and an older HP printer at the same time we decided to look into the multi-function machines now flooding the market.
We had several specificsit had to be networkable as several of us would be using it, it had to be laser quality, it had to have ADF (automatic document feederwe wanted this so printing and scanning could be done quickly and without having to be done page-by-page), it had to print quickly (although we dont use it for production printing, we still expect to get them quickly), and it had to be compact as the area it would be placed in wouldnt accommodate anything larger than the current printer that was there.
After searching all of MFPs available from HP, we settled on this one, the HP LaserJet 3320nmfp printer/copier/scanner.
GENERAL FEATURES
It offered a 50-page ADF, came with 32MB memory (with a free offer for an additional 32MB for sending in proof-of-purchase) which is expandable to 128 through one DIMM slot, and prints up to 15 pages per minute. It has its own 66MHz processor so files are spooled directly to the printerIve yet to send a job that the printer couldnt handle. The amount of memory your printer has is importantthe more memory the faster the printing, especially if youre on a network.
It handles the usual sizes of paperletter, legal, no. 10 envelopes, Monarch envelopes, etc., up to card stock weight. With the adjustable manual feed Ive been able to print business size checks, and other forms. In addition to the manual feed, theres one standard trayits a bit difficult to change the paper as the manual feed must be removed from the tray and the tray holds only 250 sheets (a ream of paper is 500) so youll need to feed it often. The duty cycle is 10,000 per monthwe run quite close to this and have not experienced one jam yet!
It connects by parallel or USB portwere using the USB as it works well. We were experiencing some slow scanning times so we wired it directly to one work station as well as having it networked to all, to improve the scanning speed for the one local machine (we were doing photos and large graphicsslow is a relative termthis scanner is faster than most home machines).
The MFP requires one of the following operating systems: Microsoft® Window® 95, 98, NT® 4.0, 2000, Me, XP, Mac® OS 9.1 (or higher), and OS X
COPYING
There is a 10 second wait for it to start which sounds fast, but its slow when youre standing there waiting for it. Once set in motion, the speed is 14 copies per minute. You can make up to 99 copies and a time and collation is available (handy when youre printing multiple copies of a multiple page documentyour copies are ready immediately, no hand sorting). Copy reduction down to 25% and enlargement to 200% is done with the pushing of a single button. Resolution of 600x600 is perfect.
This MFP comes bundled with HP JetDirect 310x externalset up was extremely easy. I just plugged it into the existing network outlet, plugged in the power cord, updated the server to recognize the printer, added the software to the people who will be using it, and I was done! Total installation from the time I opened the box until we printed our first page was 15 minutesseriously!
PRINTING
Up to 15 prints-per-minute with resolution up to 1200x1200. The software used for printing is very user-friendly and offers lots of options including manual duplexing.
SCANNING
It comes with ReadIris Pro OCR (Optical Character Reader) v6.0 an adequate reader, it does convert some scanned text into text which can be edited. Used for simple documents it works fine, however, documents which include tables confuses it and results in the areas it cant figure out being made into graphics which enlarges the file size. The scanning area is largeup to 8.5 x 35.
SIZE
It weighs a hefty 31 lbs and is a bit top heavy because of the ADF unit on the top. The dimensions are: 21.5 inches wide, 19.5 inches high, and 20.5 inches deep.

FINAL THOUGHTS (or what Id change if I could)
It would have fax capabilitythe lower-end models do but this one doesnt . Some of our users dont understand scanning and e-mailing can be substituted for faxing and they still want it the old way. Also, its very top-heavylifting the ADF unit to place something on the glass to be copied or scanned is awkward. The lid slams down if you dont hold itit only takes someone once or twice before theyre careful not to let that happen again! The scanning is a bit slow through the networkas I mentioned before, weve local wired it to one machine and that solved the problem.
It is a bit loudwith things moving around inside to change from copying to printing theres a lot of noise. Not enough to make me not recommend it but something to know should you purchase this unit. All-in-all it does a good job at all of its functions. The company I work for owns an older MFP HP and theyve not had a bit of trouble with it so Im fairly confident we wont experience any problems as well.
