peterskm's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 6p Printer
I bought this printer used at an office sale. From the test page, I found that it had printed only 300 pages. It seems extremely durable and judging from my past experiences with HP laser printers should last a long time. It prints 600 dpi up to 8 pages per minute. The printer comes with 2MB of memory and can be upgraded to 50MB. This is plenty for all but extremely large print jobs. The printer has a port for both parallel and local talk connections allowing it to be connected to either a PC or a Macintosh. The text is smooth, as I expect from a laser printer. The toner cartridge expected life is 4000 pages. It has a lower paper tray which can hold 250 pages and an upper, manual tray which can hold up to 100 pages. With all of the printing I have done, I have never experienced a paper jam. The toner cartridges are easy to replace.
Comparing this to an older high-end HP laser printer still in use at my company, I found that the HP 6P offers the same features and at a much lower cost than my company paid for their printer when it was new. Obviously, this is the way technology works, but my finding is that this is a nice printer for small-to-mid business use. It is a little overkill for home use, but if you can pick one up used, go for it.
