| vyoshimura's Full Review: Hewlett Packard OfficeJet d145 InkJet Printer |
I spent many hours researching my multifunction printer purchase, and relied heavily on epinions reviews. I chose the HP d145 for its breadth of function and substance; many of the less expensive models seemed too "flimsy." I am not one to change hardware or peripherals very often, so I wanted one that would last. I bought with a promotional $100 gift card rebate, and then found another $50 manufacturer rebate.
The print quality is exceptional, I think. A color copy of a photograph was quite good; printing it from the computer was fabulous. I love the copy features, especially multiples on page (I made wallet size prints to enclose with thank-you notes) and shrink to fit (great for medical receipts that have to be submitted).
Having eschewed fax capabilities as unnecessary for my home use, I was surprised to use it the very next day after set-up! I am able to link my answering machine, caller ID, and d145 so all are on one line; the machine "eavesdrops" and picks up the fax as necessary.
While preparing for a job interview that involved teaching a class and presenting a public lecture, I was so grateful that I had bought the d145. It made beautiful color transparencies for my class, and the duplex feature on the copier made printing handouts very easy.
The larger bed (to accommodate legal size) is another feature I had debated. Combined with the "shrink to fit" feature of the copier, it ultimately helps save paper. As mentioned above, I needed to copy medical receipts, but two were too big for standard paper. By having the larger scan bed, the d145 could produce a reduced version that fit on standard paper.
The only thing I really want to do but cannot is use the photo card slots: the "Multimedia" card that came with my Canon camcorder is not supported. Nevertheless, I anticipate that I will, in the next few years, have a digital camera so the feature will eventually be used.
Postscript, 12/1/04: This machine continues to keep me happy. I like how it tells me exactly how much ink is remaining in each cartridge, and I only had to replace one printhead. I've been able to make some beautiful color duplex copies for my classes, which is nice.
