| zipmail's Full Review: Hewlett Packard OmniBook 6000 (F2150WT) PC Noteboo... |
I have been a user of HP desktop systems for the past 5 years and find it reliable. For a while, notebooks coming out from HP though good have not been very stylish or have been expensive. This has changed with the OmniBook 6000. It is a good machine and if you are not ready to pay ThinkPad prices this is a good alternative.
It is light enough to carry around though the footprint is slightly wider and deeper than most in a similar class. The trackpad is responsive, the trackpoint is the same as IBMs and the scroll button is a bonus though I feel it is too tiny to comfortably use it on a regular basis. The trackpad has a scroll feature built-in anyway so it is a little redundant.
Battery life is a good 3.5 hours with SpeedStep. The casing is solid with a nice rubbery grip though I am not too sure if it will take scratchings well. The latch is a nice silver slide but it isn't as secured as ThinkPad's double latch system. All the same if you are a careful person I don't think that will be a problem.
My gripes? The fan. It's a tad noisy. It doesn't come on too often unless you are in a hot room or processing intensive graphics. Overall I am happy with my purchase. It's a good desktop replacement with all the necessary functions built right in and will definitely give similar notebook class manufacturers like Toshiba a run for its money.
