| stegic's Full Review: Hewlett Packard OmniBook 6000 (F2150WT) PC Noteboo... |
I purchase this OmniBook 6000 after much thought and deliberation. I was looking at getting the Dell Inspiron (Green) because of the cool look, but decided against it when I heard the lead time and that the colour is only on the inside -- how typically Dell. Boy did I make the RIGHT decision in getting this HP. It is sexy, thin, light and super powerful. Sure, the CNET review gives it a total thumbs up (as do I) but a thumbs down on price - not me! You've just got to know where to shop. It retails at around $3000 -- managed to scoop it up for $2400 at buy.com. This is what I got myself:
o P-III 600 MHz
o 64Mb RAM
o 6Gb Hard drive
o Windows 2000
o 14.1" XGA TFT Screen
o 8 Mb Video RAM - ATI Rage Mobility
o 24X CD ROM
o Built in 56K modem AND 10/100 Ethernet -- an absolute wonder, Xjack bye-bye
I purchased another 128Mb of RAM from Crucial.com SEPARATELY and paid a total of about $120 -- shipping included, not the hefty $600 difference at buy.com. You should definitely do that too. So my baby has 192Mb of RAM and screams along quite nicely. I must admit, Win2K isn't that bad, although she does take some time to boot up. Even with the extra memory, the boot time is not reduced. But when she is up and running, she purrrrsss...
What amazed me the most is how light and thin this laptop is... it stands just more than 1 inch thick and weighs less than 5 pounds. Whew! Not only that, the colour scheme is outstanding with a silver and magnesium combination which any TechnoGeek would be proud of.
A super must get...
