HP Is not a piece of junk (Reply to this comment)
by kevintailor
The HP computer may not have the rdram, but that does not mean that its a piece of junk. Eventhough it doents have rd ram it still had other aspects that are good.

I go HP all the way (Reply to this comment)
by liandria
I personally like the Hp 8760.. that is the one I am using now, and I have no troubles at all. I do desktop publishing out of my house and I think that it is a wonderful thing. Mine has 128mb ram and a preinstalled network card. I have a CD burner and a DVD player. I think it is wonderful and it does the job that I need it to do. Dell is a good brand, and they do have wonderful technical support, I do have to give them that. But I don't think that you should down HP because they are not all that bad. Almost all of my office is HP!

rambus is the hottest technology around ....
intel, dell, toshiba, compaq and many others have tested it without flaw .
if properly installed on a computer rambus will outperform any computer

rd ram is top of the line technology ,and if you r going to buy a computer you must get rd ram .this new technology has beem tested and even though intel is having problems with it,dont get discouraged about it ,most problems consist of the electronics converting a computer over from sd -rd ram.
rd ram is going to be standard in all computers starting mid 2001.

uh, this is a review? (Reply to this comment)

This opinion says very little about the reviewed product. In fact, I tend to think the reviewer only looked at the product's spec sheet, rather than actually trying it out. His recommendation of another brand is also off-topic.
As for the memory bandwidth issues, I think the consensus is that RAMBUS memory is superior to SDRAM for most tasks. However, the performance difference is so slight that the huge price differential is difficult to justify for most consumers.

Tom Pabst has been slamming Rambus since before it was available. Any tasks that involve transferring larger amounts of data will benefit from RAMBUS because of the increased memory bandwidth.

Rambus not all that hot (Reply to this comment)
by mfcrunchy
Some recent revelations about rambus ( see www.tomshardware.com ) show it may not be all its cracked up to be. I agree with your other comments, but in testing, this RAM shows very little performance increase. In fact, in the April 2000 issue of PCMagazine, on page 21, an Editor says, "...we have found that RamBus memory affects performance on almost none of our benchmark tests..."

Good Title! (Reply to this comment)
by pogomom
Yep, whenever asked for an opinion on the best computer buys around, I have to say, "Go with a Dell!" My experience has been positive and surprise, surprise, surprise, the systems actually do contain the components promised in the online configuration wizard!
Good review.
