Are you planning on buying a new computer? Well I think that this computer would be more than enough for a long while.
I bought this computer because I saw it in Sam’s Club and I thought that the price was right. This computer has:
P III 733 MHz processor,
128 MB of RAM,
16 MB video RAM,
40 GB harddrive,
CD-RW,
DVD,
56K modem,
10/100 Ethernet Card,
17" monitor,
Speakers,
Microphone,
Plenty of USB ports, and
Key board with on touch access to internet, CD player, etc...
As you can see this system has everything you need.
P III 733 MHz processor
This processor is plenty for whatever you got in mind. I personally believe that This is too much power for a personal computer and should last for a long time. You don't really need this much power if you think about it, because you don't need that much power to type, browse the net, and read email, since that is what most people use their computers for.
128 MB of RAM
This is also plenty. You can open as many programs at once as you want. But once again you don't really need this much power to browse the net. This much memory should last you a long time unless you are planning on baying software that eats up a lot of memory and software you don't really need.
16 MB of Video RAM
This much RAM is also plenty for video memory unless you are planning on doing a lot of video game playing.
40 GB harddrive
This much harddrive is really unnecessary unless you are planning on storing a lot of graphics and lots of software that you don't really need. But once again it is really nice to have infinite resources. I love this hard drive on HP because it is very quiet. I have not heard a sound from data being written to this hard drive.
CD-RW
This toy is very useful. You can burn your own CD's. You can put anything you want on it, basically any kind of data. I think that this is a good tool to have if you are storing a lot of pictures on your computer and are running out of space. You can put a whole lot of pictures on one CD and a CD costs about 50 cents.
DVD
I think that this piece of equipment is really unnecessary, but I got it because I wanted to be ready if software started coming out on DVD's. But, I think that software on DVD's is not here yet and when it will come out my DVD ROM will be too slow for it. Don't get DVD on your computer if you are planning on watching DVD movies. Just get a DVD player or a Sony Play Station. Computer is too expensive to be used as a DVD player for movies.
56 K Modem
This is as fast as it gets with modems now days and even if you could get a faster modem it would be worthless anyway, because a regular phone line can only handle less than 56 Kbs.
10/100 Ethernet Card
This piece of hardware is really unnecessary unless you are planning on building your own network or if you are a student in University which most of the time do provide means of connecting to the network.
17" Monitor
This is plenty enough for home use. You don't really need a huge monitor with huge resolution on it unless you are planning on doing a lot of graphics work.
The rest of the features are pretty much a standard and are necessary if you want to use your computer.
Personally I love this computer because it has never given me any troubles, it is plenty of power for now and many years to come, it is cheap for what it is capable of, and you can't even hear the hard drive work unlike other computers that make chhhhchchhhh sound.
Three months ago when I bought this computer for 1,399. I am pretty sure that it is now cheaper or you can get a better one for the same price. Just always remember not to buy a computer that you don't really need. Computers with 1 GHZ processors and more than 128 MB of RAM are insane to have for a PC.
