| godzthunder's Full Review: HTC PPC-6800 Smartphone |
Let me start by saying that I have used HTC devices ever since the relase of the ppc6600 which ran MS pocket pc 2003. I upgraded to the ppc6700 which ran windows mobile 5 and now am using the ppc6800 with windows mobile 6. let me say that I am highly impressed with HTC's newest smartphone.
A great phone is based on four areas. functionality, battery life, call quality and style.
1. The functionality of this phone is uber-versitile. As a true PDA it can do anything. It is a fully functional pocket computer, capable of running full computer (mobile version) programs. I have a bible software program, complete with dictionary, lexicon (Greek) and commentary. I have the (included) MS office mobile suite, I have several complete games, a couple of MP3's (nothing plays mp3 files like a PC device), a powerful calculator, and several important business files and programs. though it comes with 256MB of flash ram, you can easily add up to 2gig of extra memory via a miniSD card. anything that you can imagine a phone doing, this phone will do. customizable to the max, you can change all ringtones (without downloading them from a service, just upload an mp3 file and viola, new ring tone). Want to surf the web? Rather than just having a small cellphone browser, this device has a fully functional internet explorer. coupled with a qwerty keyboard that slides out, you can do anything online that you can do with a home pc. It has a 2MP camera with the best picture quality I have seen in a phone camera. Pictures are crisp and clear for a phone. It has both wi-fi and bluetooth 2.0, must haves for today' s phone user. it runs on EVDO networks for fast downloads and websurfing.
2. The battery life of this phone is amazing. I use the phone frequently and only charge it every other day. If I don't use it it will standby for about a week. it has more than enough power to get you through the day of continual use of both calls, internet, and typical PDA usage.
3. the call quality on my device is great. I get a perfect signal strength, and I live out in the country. (four of of five bars). I never have exerienced a dropped call on this device. the internal antennae will do its job keeping you connected to the rest of the world with little problem. the speakers are loud, though to me, the hands free speakerphone could be a little better. still, this is the best pda phone yet.
4. style is the final factor when looking for a good phone. this phone is big for a cell phone because it is a full PDA. however, for PDA's it is very small and compact and for a phone its not THAT big. this is by far the sleekest pda on the market yet. the buttons are easy to access and you can do most things one handed. It will not stand out as an odd device. It is stylish and will fit into your pocket with ease.
all in all this device is the perfect must have for the business mogul who wants it all. HTC is a trusted company and the windows mobile 6 is a solid platform. This device truly is worth the purchase price of $400.00
