Huggies Fun in the Tub Bath Mitts; do they live up to the hype? Huggies newest addition to its bath time line is this nifty little disposable washcloth. Not so new right, wrong. These are bath MITTS, a slightly different idea from your every day washcloth. In the commercial you see a sweet little toddler asserting his independence by learning to wash himself like a big boy. The bath mitt fits perfectly on his hand and he is able to rub it over his body while Mommy happily watches. Even better, if the little one decides that he is done before he is clean; the Bath mitt fits on Mommy (or Daddy) too! Practical and easy to use, or at least that is what the commercial wants you to believe.
I received a sample in the mail of the new Huggies Brand disposable bath mitts. Eager to try it out since I have a 2 1/2 yr old who hates being washed in the bath. Maybe this product will be the magic answer.
It's Claims :
1) Body wash right in the mitt
2) Tear Free
3) Five fun designs
4) Also fits YOUR hand
Description and My Experience :
Huggies Fun in The Tub Disposable Bath mitts come out of its package with one of 5 cute little cartoon designs. There is a turtle, octopus, crab, starfish and fish. On the front the cartoon character looks friendly and happy and is surrounded by bubbles, on the back there are all the other characters smiling and floating around in more bubbles. So far there is only one scent and that is Watermelon Splash. I am sure if this product turns out to be a hit with the consumers, Huggies will add even more scents to the line. We can only hope.
The Huggies Disposable Bath mitts are shaped like a large mitten without the added area for the thumb, the measure about 6 1/2 inches x 5 inches.
When I opened up the package, WOW! I was hit by the sickly sweet smell of watermelon. Ugh. Not a great first impression. I normally love the smell of watermelon scented products, but this was extremely overpowering, so much so that I was weary of washing my two year old with the mitt. I decided to move on and try it anyway.
I could tell by the feel of the mitt that it was soaked with bath wash. It felt somewhat stiff and sticky. In my mind, this was a good thing since I wouldn't want to run out before the bath was over.
Wetting the bath mitt was easy; I just ran it under the running faucet as my toddler watched with interest. All I did was run it under the water for just a second or two, enough to fully soak it and immediately the tub was filled with bubbles. There was A LOT of bath wash on the mitt. With much pleasure, I realized that once the mitt was wet, the smell of watermelon wasn't so strong. So on to washing.
I chose to put the Huggies Disposable Bath Mitt on my hand first to show my son how it was done. Now I don't have huge hands, but the mitt didn't fit very well. I wouldn't say they were unusable, but it was obvious that they were meant for a child's hands and there was no way they would work for my husband if he was to try and bathe our son with these. Then again, the point was for my son to try to use them anyway. After I showed my son how they went on my hand I tried to put them on his. He had some interest in the cute crab, but once the mitt was on his hand he freaked. He did not want to wash himself; he wanted the strange watermelon smelling paper glove off of his hand!
For the rest of the bathing process, I had to use the mitt. Since it didn't fit, I chose to use it as a plain washcloth. The mitt and the bath wash held up through the entire bath, even long enough for me to use it to wash his hair. After washing his hair, I rinsed out the mitt and there was sill enough soap left to leave even more bubbles in the tub.
The next day, my son still smelled of watermelon which was not something I liked, but I did not notice any other bad side effects of using the product. No rash, no dryness or itching.
What I liked About the Product :
I did like the idea. Toddlers are known to want to show their independence as often as they can get away with it. My son didn't like the product, but I think that if I had given this to him while he was 3, it might be different story. My son also has a few physical disabilities and tends to not like to have anything placed on his hand. Someone else wit a child who is more able to use this product would most likely have a different experience.
The soap lasted for a long time. I was pleasantly surprised. I have tried out disposable washcloths before and a lot of the time they run out of soap before the end. This was definitely not a problem for the Huggies Disposable Bath Mitt.
The Mitt itself was also very sturdy. I felt that if I chose to, I could use it again for another bath and only have to add more of my own bath soap. This would be handy if someone had a child that liked this product. The package would last a lot longer saving money in the long run.
What I Disliked About the Product :
I do wish that the bath mitt was shaped a little different. It seemed as if it was a bit too big for my sons hand, yet too small for both me and my husband. I am not sure how this could be fixed, maybe by just making it smaller for the toddlers and suggesting that the parents use it the same way they would use a washcloth.
I also couldn't stand the smell. The watermelon was way too strong. I know that this was because of the large amount of bath wash on the mitt, but it was too sweet. Even though the scent decreased as the soap was wet, it left a very strong scent of watermelon on my son all the way until the next day.
Did the Huggies Fun in the Tub Disposable Bath Mitts, hold up to their claims?
Body wash right in the mitt.
Yes, there is a ton of body wash in the mitt. So much that it lasts throughout the entire bath.
Tear Free
While my son cried during almost the entire bathing process, it wasn't because the wash was in his eyes. There was no problem with it burning his eyes as I rinsed the wash out of his hair.
Five fun designs
The cartoon ocean creatures are cute and friendly looking. I thought they were a wonderful additive to the product.
Also fits YOUR hand.
This did not fit my hand and there is no way it would even fit my husbands hand. It also seemed a little big for my toddler's hand. A good idea would be to make the design smaller and direct the adults to use it the same way they would use a washcloth.
