Pros: It is attractive in function, moves the water to help maintain steady temperature.
Cons: It tended to come out of one end more than the other, rather unlevel.
The Bottom Line: This item was inexpensive and worked fairly well for a couple of years, but never quite as it should have.

I have been very hesitant to write any reviews on fish or aquarium products because I don’t consider myself very knowledgeable about them. Shortly after I moved into my apartment, I made the mistake of mentioning (in front of my brother) that sometime, I would like to have an aquarium). The next thing I knew I had this behemoth stand with redwood finished top made from a slab from the trunk of a tree and 32-gallon fish tank, which they had in storage. It’s gorgeous, but I was not prepared to take it on apparently, since I lost several fish in the beginning. I started out by just doing what my sister-in-law told me to do and she pretty much set it up for me the first time. It has any under-gravel filtration system and pump that aerates close to the top. All the “plants” are plastic. I don’t have any live plants in the tank. I just liked the look of this aerator when I saw it and decided the tank would look nice with a wall of bubbles at the back.
The saga of my many fish is not pleasant. I don’t know for sure how many fish I murdered before I finally got something resembling an aquarium. The trouble is that now, I only have guppies and it seems like everything else I put in there dies. The one exception to the rule is my “Pleco'' (a shortening of the now-unused genus name Plecostomus) is the common term used for suckermouth catfish. And he really does a bang up job keeping the tank clean. It sure feels like he’s growing fast, however. What are you supposed to do with a fish that has become too big for your tank or do they? Guess I have a lot more reading to do.
Hagen Aqua Fizzzz Long Airstone
One day while shopping for a replacement Molly pair, I saw the Hagen Aqua Fizzzz Long Airstone and I loved the way it looked in the water. It is a very “porous airstone which will help to distribute air evenly.” It should help to maintain even water temperature and circulation as well. It is used with a standard airline tubing. The stone comes in several sizes and ranges from 6” to 12”, which is what I got. I placed it along the back edge in the bottom of the aquarium.

Final Thoughts
Well, now that I have the guppies living with the big algae eater, of course I have lost track of how many generations are in the tank. The guppies I have are very pretty and the males have some beautiful colors. I don’t think I’ll tamper with it until I learn more about it. The Hagen Aqua Fizzzz Long Airstone never would work level. What I mean to say is, that it seemed the bubbles came out of one end or the other more and not a level cascade of bubbles to the top of the tank. It was still pretty while it lasted. I just thought probably it was one more thing about which I didn't know enough. I also know, that my airstone lives no more. It just “gave up the ghost”. It probably is something very simple, but I just removed the whole thing. I hope that I learn more about the tank and start investing a little more time with it. It is so peaceful to sit in the living room watching the fish swim and the bubbles flowing. There’s something very therapeutic about an aquarium.
