| Storm01's Full Review: Haier XQBM22-C Top Load Washer |
Around this time last year, I found myself in a serious predicament...I had somehow accumulated a mountain's worth of dirty laundry and couldn't quite figure out how it had happened. What once was a few pieces that needed washing turned into an offspring of multiple pieces all crying out for soap and water.
I didn't have space for a full size washer in my small apartment, and with such a hectic & busy schedule, like most people, I couldn't quite get around to running to the laundry mat with bags that not even Atlas himself could carry. So, I began researching...and researching...and researching until I found a portable washer.
My purchase was the Haier XQBM22-C. It is a top loading washer that is small enough to fit into any closet. It attaches to any sink faucet, and is fully automatic. It comes with three choices of water levels, low/medium/high. Once the water level is selected, it can be reset if in the middle of loading the washer you've decided that a different water level is needed. Also, you can select whether you want a Heavy Wash, Normal Wash, Light Wash, or just a Rinse or Spin.
This is not an oversized washer and can not wash heavy blankets or comforters. If your washing jeans, I would suggest only washing 2 at a time since once the material is soaked, it has a tendancy to shake the washer which causes it to shut down so that you can re-adjust the clothing. However, once this is done, and the lid on the washer is closed, the washing continues where it left off. Other than that, this compact washer has been able to handle heavy loads of sweaters, turtlenecks, bedsheets, and pants that are deeply soiled without ruining the fabric, tearing the material, or loosening any stitching. It has also been able to handle extremely delicate underwear, linens, and lace without teathering the fabric. The washer comes with a security setting that if the lid is opened when the drum is in motion, the washer will automatically shut down to prevent injury.
Unlike most machines, the Haier XQBM22-C does not shake or tap dance around the room. It is held in place by 4 rubber stoppers that keep the machine stationed while its doing its job. And after it is finished, it chimes "jingle bells". Personally, I never had a problem with the chimming tune and actually look forward to it, but other consumers have made it clear that they do not always want to hear "jingle bells" chimmed each time a load of laundry is completed. After looking into this, I've learned that there is a way to shut the chime off, however it must be done by the company that you've purchased the machine from.
The machine is very sturdy and weighs about 3-4lbs so its easy to move from one area to another. If you wash consistently like I do now (I tend to wash every other day) you may have to replace the lint filter within a year of purchasing the machine. I've just recently done that which cost me all of $8.00 to replace. It's not very expensive at all and snaps right into the machine. I would suggest cleaning the filter after each wash since this is a small machine that does such a big job. This isn't hard since the lint filter is right inside the drum of the machine and snaps right out. The lint is disposed of, and the filter snaps easily back in.
I haven't had any problems with my washer machine as of today, but have recently noticed small amounts of water leaking onto the floor but have found the reason for this. When the Haier XQBM22-C is used under a high water level, it tends to retain some of its water at the bottom of the drum. This doesn't affect the way that the clothes are rinsed or spun, however it does affect the machine when jeans are washed in it. This is because the heavy cotton in jeans tends to retain more water making it harder for the machine to spin it out correctly. My suggestion to avoiding leakage of water from the Haier is to allow the machine to wash heavy cotton materials like jeans onces, and allow the machine to spin the material one extra time to release all water from the fabric so that it doesn't accumulate in the machine. In addition, to help keep the machine from having water leakage problems, I would suggest allowing the machine to run through a spin cycle without anything being in the drum and you will see any additional water that is held by the machine being extracted. This may minimize, if not correct, leakage problems that is caused by running a heavy load at high water level.
In conclusion to my whole story, I've been extremely happy with my "little washer that could" and realized I didn't need the strength of atlas to wear down that mountain full of clothes only a little research and a lot of soap and water.
