Product Rating:
Pros: All natural, good for cats and dogs, free dried fresh salmon, tasty
Cons: Expensive, nasty scent, small, Princess sometimes can't digest them well, must refrigerate
The Bottom Line: Halo Salmon Liv A Littles are nothing but salmon. All natural. Scent is weird. Must be refrigerated. Chicken flavor seems better for my animals but these are tasty too!
PattyTherre's Full Review: Treats Halo Liv A Littles Salmon 1.6oz
I have two cats who are as different as two cats can be. My older female is docile, shy, and a loner. My younger male is wild, crazy, and a snuggler. But both love treats and deserve them! I buy a variety of treats for them and try to pick up healthy ones when I can. I recently bought them a jar of Halo Salmon Liv A Littles 1.6oz.
These pricey all natural treats didn't go over as well as the chicken flavor I bought at the same time but my cats certainly didn't shun them. They're too expensive for me to give to my cats on a regular basis but, now and then, I will pick up a package as a special treat. However, it won't be the salmon flavor.

The Treats
These treats are not JUST cat treats, they can also be given to dogs (and reptiles, rodents, and just about any other pet) and my little Jack Russell Terrier MUST have one whenever the cats have one. That makes these little treats run out faster but what can I do? Mickey deserves a good treat too. Halo Salmon Liv A Littles are completely natural. They contain ONLY freeze dried salmon which is why they are pricey. A 1.6 ounce package cost me about $7.50. If you look at the pics on the net of these little treats, it looks like you get a nice big tub of treats but we're talking 1.6 ounces here!
The treats are small and not of any special shape. They're kind of like a small nugget but each is different in size. They have a strange odor. They don't smell like fish to me. They smell like old bait. I guess that's sort of fishy smelling but old bait, to me, doesn't smell appealing. The chicken flavor, though, smells really fresh and good.
The treats can be crumbled up over food to encourage eating, given whole or crumbled up and given alone. I give my cats one each and, of course, my dog one. He wants way more than one but I can't give him more because there would be none left for anyone!
My cats did a little sniffing of the Halo Salmon Liv A Littles before they ate them. It seems as though the scent was throwing them as off as to what I was offering them. However, once they started to taste the treats, they gobbled them up. My older cat has some digestive issues and did actually throw up a couple of times after eating one of these treats. She never did with the chicken flavor so I don't give her the salmon variety anymore.
My younger cat has no digestive issues with this flavor and eats his treats growling all the way through. That's a sign that he really, really likes what he's eating and he's warning everyone that it's all his.
My dog just gobbles them up without even tasting them. He just knows they're food, they're different, and they're hard to come by in our house.
Halo Salmon Liv A Littles need to be refrigerated after opening at all times and must be used within 30 days or they will spoil. For us, that is a non-issue. There are varying amounts of pieces in each package but never more than maybe 20. I never counted but it's not a large amount. The pieces are light and can be split into halves but that doesn't make much of a treat.
The packaging actually looks like the picture above. The treats come in a little plastic jar with a screw on/off lid. My hand can't fit into the jar but pouring the treats out is no biggie.
I do love that these treats are all natural with nothing at all added to them. I like that all my animals can share the same treats (although I have to admit my dog steals cat treats all the time no matter what) and I like that the treats are healthy. But the cost! It's quite prohibitive for simple cat treats. As much as I love my kitties, I can buy many other kinds of healthy treats for much less with many more pieces for them. I buy Halo Salmon Liv A Littles just occasionally as an extra special treat. Here's a little more Ingredient info on these treats:
Halo Salmon Liv A Littles and the other flavors (chicken and beef that I know of. There may be others as well.) can be purchased at pet stores on and offline. Be careful because pet stores charge crazy prices. These treats are also found at some mass market stores offline and on websites like drugstore.com and Amazon. They're less pricey there. The price ranges from around $6.99 to $12.99 for one little container (That would be 1.6 ounces, mind you.) for the treats. OUCH!
Conclusion
My cats like Halo Salmon Liv A Littles but prefer the chicken flavor. Princess has some issues digesting this flavor now and then as well. The scent is just not pleasant. It's not exactly fishy (which would make sense) but just nasty. Even my animals are a bit turned off by it. They now know the taste is good and they don't bother sniffing the treats but, at first, I think they thought I was trying to give them medicine or something.
Many cats love these treats and mine definitely enjoy them (as does my dog). However, the price makes them just an occasional splurge and the scent and digestive issues Princess has had have led me to splurge on the chicken flavor instead. Still these treats are nothing but good for your animals! I give them 3 stars simply based on my own experience. I give the other flavors 4 stars. But I do recommend them if you've got the extra cash. Your cats will probably love them. They make good training treats for cats and dogs.
