Pros:quick, easy to make, cheap, long shelf life
Cons:powdered cheese sauce, high sodium content
The Bottom Line: Hamburger Helper Cheeseburger Macaroni is an OK meal that is cheap and easy to make.

When I was younger I could’ve eaten Hamburger Helper Cheeseburger Macaroni every day. It was a cheap meal and quick to make. As I a mom, a do keep a box or two of Hamburger Helper in the house for those nights were I need a quick meal or I don’t feel like cooking but recently we have found something that we like a bit better.

Cheeseburger Macaroni comes in a 5.5 ounce cardboard box. Inside the box is a bag of elbow macaroni’s and a flavored powdered cheese sauce mix. You will need a pound of hamburger, water, milk and butter to make this meal.

Cheeseburger Macaroni is easy to make. You will need to cook up a pound of hamburger. I keep cooked hamburger in my freezer for nights that I need something quick or I forget to pull something. This makes this meal even quicker to make. Once your burger is cooked, you add the pasta, sauce mix, water, milk and butter. You then heat this to a boil and simmer for about twelve minutes. You can also cook this in the microwave but I have never tried it.

There are approximately five servings in a box of Cheeseburger Macaroni. This is not the case at my house. The three of us can polish off a box of Cheeseburger Macaroni.  A serving is 1 cup. A serving has 350 calories with 150 of them coming from fat. There are 17 g of total fat, 60 mg of cholesterol, 890 mg of sodium, 26 g of total carbs with 6 g coming from sugar and 22 g of protein.

The ingredients in Cheeseburger Macaroni are enriched macaroni (wheat flour, niacin, ferrous sulfate, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), corn starch, salt, modified whey protein concentrate, sugar, autolyzed yeast, ricotta cheese (dried) (whey, milk fat, lactic acid, salt), yeast , natural flavor, monoglycerides, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, color (yellows 5 & 6 lake, yellows 5 & 6, red 40 lake), whey, lactic acid, calcium lactate, blue cheese (dried) (milk, salt, cheese cultures, enzymes), yeast extract, enzyme modified blue cheese (milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes), enzyme modified cheddar cheese (milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes), silicon dioxide (anticaking agent), sodium phosphate, freshness preserved by tocopherols, and bha. I have taken the nutritional and ingredients from the box. If this information is important to you, please read the label before purchasing.

I like that Cheeseburger Macaroni is a one dish meal. I hate washing dishes so I like when a meal can be cooked using only one dish.

Cheeseburger Macaroni is an OK tasting food but it is one dish that my whole family will eat. I sometimes throw in a few more macaroni’s to make it go a bit further. Cheeseburger Macaroni tastes like pasta cooked with hamburger with a cheesy cheddar sauce. I like when the Cheeseburger Macaroni sits a bit so the flavors can meld a bit.

I am not crazy about the powdered cheese sauce that is used and find we like the Kraft Velveeta Ultimate Cheeseburger Skillets Dinner Kit better for this reason. The Velveeta Cheeseburger Skillet comes with a Velveeta cheese sauce and not powder.

Hamburger Helper comes in many different varieties. We have tried many of the flavors over the years but Cheeseburger Macaroni was the one we had purchased the most.

Cheeseburger Macaroni can be found in most grocery stores in the aisle with other prepackaged foods such as macaroni and cheese. Hamburger Helper often goes on sale for a dollar a box. They also have coupons in the paper quite frequently. If I combine a sale with a coupon I can normally get a box of Hamburger Helper for about $0.75 a box. So it is a cheap meal that I like to keep on hand.

Since the Cheeseburger Macaroni comes in a cardboard box, it is easy to store and has a decent shelf life. So if you find them reasonable and want to stock up, this is not an issue.

Since finding the Velveeta Cheeseburger Skillets I do not purchase Cheeseburger Macaroni as often. Hamburger Helper Cheeseburger Macaroni is an OK meal that is cheap and easy to make. If you are on a tight budget give Cheeseburger Macaroni a try.
