The Bottom Line: The Hamilton Beach Percolator is a cheesy cheaply made counterfeit of the old fashioned bulletproof coffee makers of years ago. Don't be fooled by the appearance. It is worthless.
Hamilton Beach 12 Cup Percolator
I bought this to replace a similar looking percolator I had had for years and found out it looked like it, but was not the same at all. I should have known as the old percolator was a Presto - not available any more at least in my area.
I got used to the Presto making hundreds of pots of steaming hot predictably delicious coffee with its basket and stainless steel construction by simply loading it with coffee and water and plugging it in. The Presto made a nice perking sound that was not obnoxious and the aroma of the just perked coffee was heavenly! I used it for at least 5 or 6 years, and every day. Well, I lost the Presto through a failed marriage but I bought another drip coffee maker and somehow continued on.
This Hamilton Beach coffee maker is an obvious rip off of the Presto coffee maker and looks just about exactly the same. Looks can be deceiving, however because examination shows similar construction but noticeably cheapened in the fit and finish. The stainless steel is thinner and less well formed, cut, and finished.
I bought this Hamilton Beach Coffee Maker for some $40 or so and tried to make coffee with it. I thought it worked OK but it was noisier than the old Presto. Not too many pots into its life it stopped working and the water did not heat up and perk. I noted the 30 day warranty and MADE IN CHINA stamp on the percolator. I am a pretty good handyman but I decided to just throw out this piece of junk because the repair parts would be as defective as the unit itself. No use throwing good money after bad.
I should have researched this purchase better but didn't think I'd have difficulty with such a famous name brand. Ha! Now I know better and will avoid buying from them in future. So education costs money but I've paid my tuition.
I just hope the Chinese stainless steel was not made out of some radioactive material that will cause me to set off Geiger counters or glow in the dark.
I do not recommend the Hamilton Beach Percolator; not because it is made in China but because it is made to the cheapest standards they can and it is not worth taking home.
