Pros:Fast boil, numerous safety features, attractive, cordless
Cons:No temperature control
The Bottom Line: Great tea kettle. Lots of safety features and efficient.
One of my favorite celebrity chefs, Alton Brown, turned me on to the electric kettle. It truly is, as he would say, a "multitasker" in the kitchen for its ability to heat not only water, but all other sorts of liquids and even do things like hard boil eggs. I keep my tea kettle on my kitchen counter at all times.

The Hamilton Beach 40898 Electric Kettle is cordless. This 64-ounce kettle features a concealed heating element, stainless steel stay-cool housing, an automatic shut off, is cordless, and comes with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty from Hamilton Beach.
To use, you simply place the kettle on its "power base" and flip on the switch. The cordless kettle means you don't have to drag a cord with you over to the skin or refrigerator or carry pitchers of dripping water across the kitchen to pour into the kettle. After about 3 minutes (depending on how much water you're trying to boil; a full kettle has taken me up to 4 minutes to boil at 730 feet above sea level). when the water has hit a boil, the kettle coneveinently shuts off.
Features I love:
Auto shut off: So often I put on the kettle for a cup of tea and walk away, honestly having forgotten about the boiling water. This safety feature keeps the kettle from boiling dry and causing a hazard for overheating, fire, or other disaster.
Wide mouth: Unlike my friends' big mouthes, this tea kettle's wide mouth means easy cleanup, no drips or spills when trying to fill it up, and easy pouring, too (always a plus when working with boiling liquids).
Things I would change:
Lack of temperature control: It would be nice to be able to control whether I want the water warm, boiling, or simmering--a feature I have seen on higher-tier (more expensive) models
Hard to read max fill line: The maximum fill line on this kettle is a very fine marking inside the of the thing and as a result, it's rather difficult to see while you're filling up the kettle. This could be a potential for hazard if you filled the kettle past the line inadvertently and water boiled over.
In summary, this is a great kettle for a great price ($48.88 over at Amazon). It does its job well.
