Pros:Wide-mouthed stainless carafe, easy to use and clean, stays hot, small footprint, great coffee!
Cons:Brewing takes 10 minutes
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended! Great coffee with minimal fuss.
I have a shelf in my basement full of old coffee pots, probably 8-10. My favorites as far as good flavor are a vacuum pot and a french press but they're a pain to clean, since I don't have a garbage disposal and they don't use filters. So every 6 months or so I try another coffee maker that somebody recommends. Each one has left me with bad coffee, or complicated clean-up, or no room left on my counter. My trials have included other Hamilton Beach products as well as Black & Decker, Senseo, and other brands. I had considered a thermal carafe but they all seemed to have a small mouth that would not accommodate my hand for cleaning. And a clean pot is essential to good coffee! I saw this on sale for $30. The store had the pot bolted to the brewer so I had to surreptitiously remove the bolt to look at the pot, then re-bolt the thing. I'm very glad I took the trouble! My hand fit easily in the mouth. That sold it for me and I decided to give it a go. I love it! The coffee is great, and filling the water tank is easy. The filter basket comes right out for dumping the old grounds in the trash. The pot cleans easily, and the lid has not leaked at all with pouring. I like very hot (but not scalding) coffee and this kept the coffee HOT for over 4 hours. And since it wasn't on a hot plate it didn't burn; the last of the pot tasted just as good as the first cup! I haven't brewed directly into the cups, just the pot. I have used the cups in the car and the coffee stayed hot for a reasonable time but it wasn't winter, so it wasn't tested under freezing conditions. It has a programmable feature that's easier to set than most. And the last nice thing is it takes up a relatively small space on my counter. I've had smaller pots with much bigger footprints. So far, so good! I would recommend this to anybody!
