dlru's Full Review: Hammer Nutrition Hammer Recoverite Strawberry 32 S...
This recovery drink was highly recommended by my local bike shop, and I absolutely love it. I had looked at some different products, but chose Recoverite because (1) it wasn't as expensive as some of the other single serving "cans" sold at supermarkets, (2) I was told that it wouldn't mess with my stomach -- unlike cytomax; (3) it has the 3:1 ratio of carbohydrates and protein; and (4) I was told that it tasted good. I also trust the Hammer products, which typically uses high quality ingredients. For example, the protein used in Recoverite is whey protein isolate, which in simple terms means that it is virtually fat and lactose free and it provides the purest form of whey protein available. The recovery drink also doesn't have any artificial sweeteners or coloring.
So far, I have really enjoyed this recovery drink. Both my spouse and I have been using it, and we haven't had any upset stomach problems from the drink. I typically use it after a strenuous workout (long bike ride, Nordic ski or weight session), especially when I know that I will be working out again the next day.
It is 180 calories for two scoops, which is 3.4 tablespoons (or 49 grams). Depending on my workout, I also sometimes just use 1 scoop (which I figure it better than nothing).
The drink is easy to make because you simply need to add the powder substance to 8-12 ounces of water. It was recommended to me to mix it strong, or to at least use cold water, and I would agree with both of those recommendations. I first tried to use lukewarm water (it was after the gym, so I just put it in my water bottle), and it was not great. I've now been using cold water, and it is a ton better. I also sometimes put it in my blender with cold water, a couple of ice cubes and splash of orange juice, which is absolutely delicious. It actually reminds me of strawberry Nesquik, so I look forward to my post workout recovery drink.
For nutritional or additional information, you should check out the Hammer website at www.hammernutrition.com. They have a good explanation of the product, which is much more informative than any description that I could provide here.
My only note is that another option that I've been using (which is really cheap, and easy to find when you don't have any recovery drink and need something immediately) is lowfat chocolate milk. From everything that I've read on the internet, this is also a great recovery drink (and about the same calories). I'm not a nutritionist, so you should do your own research.
