Pros:Instant heat, relatively cheap at about a buck a pair.
Cons:nothing I can think of.
The Bottom Line: HOTHAND brand hand warmers by HEATmax are the best hand warmers around. They are perfect for many outdoor activities.
I first saw HOTHANDS brand hand warmers by HEATmax about 15 years ago. I thought they were an excellent idea and quite useful for heating up the extremities of hands and fingers and feet and toes in very cold weather and/ot ;ong exposures to it. They have been a life saver for me when outside for long periods of time in the cold.

A Bit About Them
They came packaged then as now in pairs. Two separate warmers in a two-pack attached together. They can each be used individually and at different times. Each pad is very thin and about 2"x4" in size. The outside packaging is a plastic seal of some sort. When opening the package to get the warmer its noted to be in a white pourous bag. It is then that air can get to the materials inside the bag causing it to warm up. The bags can stay warm for up to ten hours.
No prob though. It won't be burning you and it's not a toxic formula that will cause your first born to have flies eyes and lobster claw hands. The ingedients are all natural including iron powder, water, salt, activated charcola and wood fiber. This is all earth friendly and all that stuff.
Using the Product
To open the plastic packet a scissor or my teeth do the job easy enough. Out comes the little bag. Shake it a bit and wait ten to twenty minutes as it gains optimum heat of up to 135 degrees. That's enough to throw off good heat but yet won't burn you too badly. I do suggest having a layer of cloth between the mini-bag and your skin. It does get pretty hot and you can wind up with a slight burn, I believe, on sensitive skin. I would never let a young child place it on skin directly.
Once out of the plastic and open to air one could shake it a bit and slowly feel it start to warm up. It does take ten to twenty minutes to do so and then maintains warmth for nearly ten hours!! I have found it more like eight with ard cold use. There is absolutely no odor and they are easily disposable.
My Experience with HOT HANDS Hand Warmers
Having said that, I do place these HotHand hand warmers inside the palm of my gloves. That skin isn't too sensitive and that placement allows my fingers tips to curl up into the warmers. I have used these Hot Hands hand warmers made by Heatmax skiiing, shoveling, and taking long walks on winter's days and nights. Though I warn about them being too hot they feel great in my gloves when the weather temperatures drop. When skiing I also kept a pair in my pockets wher I could get a little extra warmth to the outside of my fingers. Though the product line includes HOT HAND warmers for the feet, Toasty Toes and the Foot Warmups I have used the Hot Hand hand warmers in my shoes. They are a bit bumpy but OK. Just to mention, the ackaging suggest you don't use these products on anything but intended hands. I should try the toe stuff some day and give my review of them. A review of foot warmers I have used will be coming up soon. They were not the HeatMax brand.
These HOT HANDS by Heatmax have a shelf life of six years. If you don't use them one year, you can the next or the next or the next or the next or the next. I like the product. They are cheap enough and though ten to twenty minutes warm-up time may seem a bit long, it's perfect the way I see it. By the time the fingers start feeling the cold of the outside air, the HOT HANDS hand warmers are doing the job.
I'm going to Alaska on a cruise. I'm gonna place these in my luggage.
I recommend HOT HANDS that are made in the USA.
