We purchased this gate for the bottom of our stairs to keep our toddler from going up the steps. It has since been moved to the doorway of my now almost 3 year old's room to make sure he does not come down the steps. This gate has accomplished above and beyond what was expected of it. I like the fact that rails are up and down and smooth which is a great deterrent for a climber. Because this gate employs a foot pedal for opening I could open it with a load of laundry in my hands and shut it with a kick of my foot. It is super easy to open but in no way easy for a toddler to open. My son has stood on it and shaken it as hard as he can and it has withstood. Because the step has to be pushed down on with force, it can hold back even the roughest toddler because they do not have the weight to push the step down. My 7 year old finally got heavy enough to push the pedal down about a year ago so it is super sturdy and can take alot of stomping. We have had it for about 2 years and it is still being used daily. I love the fact that its adjustability allowed us to use it on the spindles of our steps and we did not have to drill holes. This gate uses tension screws to hold it in place. The tension screws held it very secure and it has never popped loose after being installed. It was easy to install and also easy to move. I did notice that the bottom catch has been pushed in and no longer catches, I am not sure when this happened, but it does not affect the use of the gate and could probably be fixed. I highly recommend this product.
