Handspring’s Visor Platinum is a great buy if you’re looking for a handheld. This handheld has the features your looking for in a handheld, is ultra-expandable, with the price tag to match.
The Visor Platinum is about 50% faster than the Visor deluxe. What does this mean for the consumer? Well, as a valued consumer, this means that you play games, enter contacts, or accessing your data is not going to be the time-consuming event of your day.
This handheld comes with a roomy 8MB of RAM. This amount of on-board memory allows you to store thousands of contacts, dates, memos, e-mails, etc. With room let over for the occasional games, graphics, and various other utilities.
You may be asking yourself what can I do with a Palm, eh, Handspring anyway. The founders on Palm Computing formed handspring. Handspring’s handheld run the same OS (Operating System) that Palm Pilots run, and all of the applications as well. If you are not familiar with handheld devices, the basic functions of all handhelds is to help organize your life. That’s why the Handspring comes with the popular Palm OS 3.52H, enhanced datebook, address book, To Do list, Memo Pad, Mail, Expense, Advanced Calculator, World Clock and HotSync Manager (for the handheld and desktop).
I highly recommend that you download the latest HotSync software from Handspring’s website (www.handspring.com) if you are running Windows 2000 with Office 2000. The Visor Platinum does connect to your PC (or MAC) via a USB port. The software that comes packaged I find tends to stall when syncing with Microsoft’s Outlook 2000. Downloading the updated Desktop Sync software has remedied the problem.
It is very easy to use. The biggest obstacle a new user to the Palm OS is entering data. The most luring feature is the Springboard expansion that is available with all Handspring handhelds. It allows you to turn your handheld into a digital camera, MP3 player, cellular phone or you can add memory and backup your valuable data. All you have to do is buy one of these Springboard modules. Easy right?
I highly recommend anyone purchasing Visor Platinum. It’s a amazingly fast, fully compatible with the Palm OS and all Palm applications, ultra-expandable, easy-to-use, syncs quicker with your desktop via USB, and best of all only $199.00 USD. It comes in two colors, Silver and Graphite. At the time I purchased my Visor, it included a leather case (limited time only).
