| peterskm's Full Review: Hannspree HANNS·G HU196D 19 inch Monitor |
I bought this monitor about 7 months ago to replace my 11 year old 17" CRT Dell monitor. I primarily use my laptop, so I was able to put off this upgrade for as long as I needed until the cost of LCD monitors fell. I finally decided to buy one when this monitor was offered for a little over $100 after rebate. I was a bit skeptical as there wasn't many reviews to go on. I was particularly nervous about dead pixels as most stores won't return a monitor unless it has several. My stance has always been that if there is 1 (and it can not be fixed), it is defective. I was prepared to fight it if I needed to. When I got the monitor, I was very impressed with the quality and looks. Most of the LCDs I've seen are square whereas the HU196D has rounded edges and looks nice sitting on my desk. It also has speakers built into the lower left and right corners (further desktop space savings). It accepts a standard VGA or DMI connection (both cables are included). Since my PC doesn't have DMI, I hooked it up via VGA. The picture was amazing. Way better than either of my laptops (which both have the best screens available). No dead pixels either! I was really happy with the purchase. I hooked it up to my KVM switch and was ready to go. One thing I really like is that when I toggle between PCs and the screen alignment changes, there is an auto-adjust button on the monitor that fixes it quickly. The one possible drawback is the stand only has a tilt adjustment. While the monitor is perfect for me, some might have a problem with the fact that it can not be adjusted up or down (though it can be wall-mounted).
