Pros: Excellent sound output (55W x 8 = 440W equiv.), Future proofed system
Cons: Requires some getting used to default settings and customization options.
The Bottom Line: Good robust receiver which I bought as a HTB offer from HK itself. Strongly recommended for optimal trade-off between price, performance & ease-of-use.

I bought this receiver as part of a HTB deal being offered by Harman Kardon themselves. While looking for a HTS, I scouted many products - DIY as well as HTB variants.
I must say that for the triangle comprised of Total Cost, System Power and Ease-of-use - this is hands down the best receiver to be part of the combo.
As most would know that the receiver is the heart and soul of a HTS, this baby delivers what it promises. Crystal clear sound, easy to setup and use (with EZSet its a click away) and the power you want delivered out is the best combo. You may argue that the more power the better - I tend to agree especially when you have a complete soundproofed room dedicated to such a system. Most people (like me) setup their HTS in the living room and too much power was something I would love to have, but would be untapped most of the time - lets be honest about it!
I have had very little setup to do. It did not take me more than 45mins to setup the whole system in my living room - with some assistance from my wife (who vowed to stay away, but couldnt when she saw what a sitter it was to do so)
The display is crisp and clear, and almost all controls can be managed by the remote.
Do not be fooled by the 55W output, that is a understatement. The sound delivered is deep in base and sharp in treble and very few receivers can do equal justice to DVD Movie sounds, Concert Music CD's, Classic Music CD's and Radio at more or less the same settings.
The system is pretty much future proofed with the existing 7.1 channel capabilities coming in fashion with newer systems like Blu-Ray discs (which exploit this capability extensively). I am glad that I bought this system almost 2 years ago and Blu-Rya systems will hit the US markets around X-Mas 2006 so my investment is protected and "future-proofed" till the next version of technology comes through ;-)
