| iceberg's Full Review: harman/kardon AVR 320 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I have had my AVR-320 for almost a year now. I don't like to review something until I have gotten use to it and know for sure it's capabilities. This unit was purchased from a major electronics chain as an out of the box unit so I got a discount for that, and I got an additional discount for them not having the original receiver I went to buy. Right away I was happy to get a $700.00 receiver got $400.00. Setting up the unit was quite easy but it took me a moment to realize that only the component input could be displayed on the component output. I guess this is common on all receivers at this time. I hope in the future they put a scan line doubler in so that all output can be displayed over the singe output. Luckily my TV has 6 inputs so that was little problem Once the TV was connected and I had all the wires connected (I recommend some kind of wire management for anyone with this many devices) it was easy to configure using the On Screen Display feature. The unit also has a optical and coaxial digital input on the front along with svideo, composite and stereo rca inputs. This is great for if someone brings over a gaming console you don't already have as you don't have to dig behind to plug things in. The front is sleek and looks very good, when powered up the main dislplay is easy to read from across the room but the dolby modes are not.
The sound quality is phenomenal and for the average consumer this is easily as good as a denon. It has 7 channel output on the rear so you can add a 7 channel amp for 7.1 surround. Of course you can get 5.1 from the built in amp. When I purchased my 320 I also picked up a cheap pair of Jensen 5.1 speakers and they sound absolutely great with this unit. I can only imagine how good a set of Klipsch speakers would sound.
I probably won't upgrade from this receiver for a good long time. It has everything most consumers will want. When I was looking I was looking at higher end Denon and Onkyo systems but once in the store I was shown this system and a Yamaha. The Denon I wanted and the Yamaha were not in stock.
