High quality receiver?

Pros: Looks are stunning, very powerful, good features, clean sound
Cons: Quality problems with my particular unit
The Bottom Line: Dont buy display units. Buy only new. The new models have better features anyway.

The way this receiver looked as well as the clean noise free sound it produces sold me on it. Unfortunately, I bought one that had been on display. It has probably been abused. The back light on the remote has never worked and when I turned it on there was a rather loud hum which continued until the unit warmed up. There had been no hum it the ones I listened to at ABC warehouse (where I ended up buying the receiver). ABC warehouse has a very short time limit for returns. Dont buy anything there. Due to the fact that the limit had expired I had to have the receiver sent back to the company to be repaired. The hum was gone when I got it back but they had not repaired/replaced the remote. Needless to say this frustrated me. Even though the loud hum was gone when I got it back there was still more constant noise (low level) than there should be. I still have to have it repaired again. Also the right front channel is louder than the left when all balance control are set evenly for each side. There is also a clicking sound when the volume is adjusted. This is not in the dial alone but occurs even when the volume on the remote is adjusted. I am sure these problems are unique to my unit and do not exist in all of H/K's products. I know this because I have listened to other receivers from them. They do make exceptionally high quality equipment. I agree with the other reviewer who said buy new models only. If you stick with only the newest models you should be very satisfied. I dont think the customer service is anything special so if anything you buy does break beware. It takes about a month to get anything back and the problem might not be fixed even then.
