Pros: Excellent uncompromising warm sound. DTS-ES.
Cons: No Dolby Digital EX.
The Bottom Line: This receiver has the options to allow it to do whatever one might want, but more importantly it has the unbeatable clean warm sound that HK is known for.

I really recommend this receiver to those who prefer a warm almost tube-like sound as opposed to the artificial digital sound of other receivers.
It does have fewer features than other brands, but I feel that the pure sound that is achieved with this model makes up for its lack of bells and whistles. Sure, it is a little bare compared to other brands, but sometimes less is more and uncomplicated things are actually more sophisticated.
The features that it does include are great. ProLogic II is a drastic improvement over 1 and the DTS-ES is great. I feel that the unit actually excels, though, when it is in simple stereo mode without the adulteration of the digital processing modes.
The receiver is fantastic for music and great for home theater. I think that I wold like just a bit more harsh sound in my home theater applications. One can easily obtain a more bright sound, but that requires running the internal EQ. Not that this is bad, but I always assume more circuitry equals more chance for imperfection.
