Pros: Cool looking. Excellent sound.
Cons: Big sub-woofer--needs some room, no external jack.
The Bottom Line: Lotsa sound from these little guys. True tone and cool styling will make you use your computer as a stereo system.

The Harman Kardon HK 695 Champagne speakers sound as impressive as they look. The Small desktop speakers produce a great high and midrange sound. The bass, of course is provided by the relatively large subwoofer.
Each desktop speaker has an LED to let you know they're on, as does the power source/subwoofer. The right speaker however has the volume controls. You need to know where the volume is in order to adjust it. It consists of two small buttons covered by rubber embossed with -/+ and is impossible to see in the dark.
The sound is impressive. MP3 playback is as true as you could want. I could not get the speakers to distort at high levels. Three dials on the subwoofer control bass, treble and surround level.
Hookup is simple. Speaker to power/subwoofer is a simple you-can't-screw-this-up-if-you-tried shaped plug system. Computer hookup uses the standard headphone jack on the sound card. It also had an extra plug for sound cards supporting rear speakers.
The HK 695 also makes for a great impromtu stereo system with anything that has headphone outputs. I used it on a portable CD player that can read MP3 files. I had almost 10 hours of great sound from the combination.
The HK 695 gives you big sound from tiny speakers. The drawbacks other than the volume control is the size of the power source/subwoofer, and the absence of a headphone jack. It has an oval base that is approx. 6"x9". The height is about 10". The size makes it hard to hide by your feet when you are using the computer. Try not to kick it. The missing headphone jack can be annoying when your wife is trying to sleep and you want to listen to some relaxing Iron Maiden MP3's before bed.
