This is an amazing adventure that was published as a children's book. The copy I had was printed in 1977 and I was only five years old then. I have to wonder if my mother still has that book.

This was one of my most favorite stories as a child. It is all about a little boy named Harold and his Purple Crayon.
Harold uses his imagination one night to go on an adventure. He starts off with a stroll in the moonlight and the story flows from there.
During his travels he shows problem solving skills for instance when he discovers he is in deep water, he takes his crayon and draws a boat.
When he becomes hungry he draws himself a picnic and sits to down to eat.
There are also good lesson for kids in this book. For instance, Harold draws landmarks as he goes so that he won't get lost.
Now that the facts are presented I want to get more fanciful here because the story deserves no less.
When I was a child this was a fantastic story. It held the key to my desire to become a writer. To do what Crockett Johnson did. He was able to take something ordinary and spin a wonderfully creative and entertaining tale.
I was enraptured with this story as a child and it was the one I read most often or asked to have read to me on those nights I wanted to be spoiled.
It is not a long story so parents won't have to spend a long time reading it unless the child is like me and wants to hear it again and again.
Today's kids books are okay but this one will always be the best ever written to my way of thinking. It is a timeless classic that gets the message out to kids that with a little imagination there is not a thing you can't do.
I recommend this book higher than any other kid's book to parents. It is much more expensive than when my mom got it for me back in the 70's but still well worth it.
There are also other books about Harold and his Purple Crayon but this first one is by far the best.
In the words of the five year old living within..Magical..
