| falduto's Full Review: Harry Caray's |
Though he passed on almost 3 years ago, the memory and spirit of Harry Caray lives on in his restaurant. A Chicago institution while he was alive, Harry had ascended to sainthood in the minds and hearts of many Chicagoans. And his restaurant is his cathedral.
When you enter the restaurant you immediately view one of harry's favorite pasttimes. The bar is prominently placed as you enter and serves as a waiting area. No doubt, it is always packed, especially on game nights. And Harry's favorite beer, Budweiser, is always on tap.
Throughout the restaurant are pictures of harry with just about anyone imaginable. From presidents to the princes of baseball, they all loved Harry. Also scattered throughout are baseball artifacts from Harry's 50+ years in baseball.
The actual dining area itself suggests very little ties to baseball at all. In fact it looks more like a quiet (but Harry's is always rather loud) intimate Italian restaurant. White table clothes and white aprons on the waiters add a crisp Italian look to the dining area.
The food and service itself is superb. Chicago houses many of the worlds best restaurants and steakhouses, Harry's is no exception. Steaks are cooked to perfection, often coated with a peppercorn or Italian spices as desired. The array of pastas makes you feel like you're in the heart if Italy. No matter the choice, the food is always excellent.
The price of the food and beverages are a little pricey, but tame in comparison to other high class Chicago restaurants. You can expect to pay about $30-40 per person depending our your selection and number of courses, but you also will visit one of Chicago's finest establishments.
