Hartz™ Mountain UltraGuard, Rid Flea & Tick Dog Shampoo with Oatmeal is a decontamination shampoo product having natural Pyrethrins for killing fleas and ticks as opposed to products having more dangerous, synthetic Permethrin in the ingredient list. 

Because fleas and ticks can carry various diseases it is important to keep pets as flea and tick free as possible.  While this especially designed formula designed to eradicate fleas and ticks, including the deer tick which may carry Lyme disease temptation to use product to treat younger puppies us understandable; Ultraguard Oatmeal Shampoo is suggested for dogs 6 months of age or older. 

Guye the dog has had ongoing flea related problems.  We use vet prescribed Frontline with modest success however, before time for the next dosage fleas are seen with predictable itch, scratching, lessened appetite, sleeplessness and overall lethargy. 

Using a diversity of flea shampoos produces some kill flea results, however, it also often brings dry skin itch.  Poor little dog, he just could not win until Husband picked up a bottle of  oatmeal shampoo.  What a difference.  Following his first Oatmeal bath Guye lay down and slept for several peaceful hours, no waking up to scratch, bite at fleas or whine.  We were pleased and now Oatmeal is part of our Guye plan.

It seems that we have finally found just what is needed.  I see less fleas, Guye is more comfy, his skin is not so irritated.

For best results leave the shampoo on dog for a few minutes, and wash all bedding, soft toys and the like to further kill fleas, remove eggs and the like.

We bathe Guye once a week using Adams or Hartz shampoo, use Frontline and wash bedding ongoing. 

We have found this UltraGuard Flea and Tick relief Shampoo supplies instantaneous results.  As Guye stands in his little wading pool we lather him up, talk to him, and fleas begin tumbling into the water to provide respite from fleas, and, should they be present ticks as well.  We seem to see very few ticks on Guye.

As with most scented products, my lack of smell precludes my actually catching a whiff of the scent.  Husband says scent is pleasant, smells clean, Guye the dog does not recoil; thus I am convinced the fragrance is likely pleasing to most.

I find treating only the pet, or waiting until fleas are seen is a sure method to ensure ongoing flea problems.  An inclusive program for pest management including carpet powders and sprays, bathing dog, using Frontline or similar products, washing bedding, and spraying sofas, and other furniture, keeping lawn cut, using in yard eradication and the like all as well as check cats and dog often for signs of fleas or ticks all help to ensure less likelihood that the flea problem will become a full blown flea infestation.

It is vital to remember that for each single flea seen there are a great many pupae, eggs and larvae in the area, on the dog and cats, furniture and carpeting.  Treating all contaminated areas as well as critters as quickly as the problem is noticed, and even beginning to treat carpeting, furniture and the like prior to seeing ticks on the pup and cats does help a good bit especially for those who live, as do we, in a rural area where wild critters are always in the yard, and wild critters bring their fleas and ticks with them.
