MARIEROY's Full Review: Hartz Training Academy Training Pads 80 Count
Hartz Training Academy leak-proof training pads is a product that is going to make my life sooo much more simpler, especially with winter approaching. I'm sorry but to those who firmly believe in taking their puppies out in the yard to "do their thing" this new doggie owner won't be adhering too strictly to that philosophy.
No, at my age I don't see myself getting up in the wee hours of the morning or even later when the wind is blowing, a foot of snow is covering my deck where I can't open the sliding glass doors, and the temps are hovering below twenty degrees or lower. I just can't see me doing that.
That is why I've trained my puppy to use Hartz Academy training pads. And guess what? They do work. I have two locations in the house where I have these pads. One is actually in my bedroom. I put the pad into a special holder so that nothing will ever leak through, and another area is in the hallway to the family room, again in a special pad holder where no leaks will ever get through to the tiled floor. Now when I keep the puppy on the bed, it acts pretty much like crate training so that she has now learned to hold it for the entire night. First thing in the morning, I place her on the floor, and she immediately goes to the puppy pad. I then roll it up and put it in the trash.
My puppy took to the Hartz Academy Training pads like fish do to water.
What is so good about these pads?
For one thing they are pretty much like flat diapers. They lock in the wetness right away. They neutralize odors. People come in and say they don't smell anything. (Even better than a littler box for cats where you just know there's a cat in the house because of the litter box. I know...I've had seven cats over the years and have changed enough litter to know that the smell doesn't totally go away even after a cleaning.)
Hartz Training Academy pads also dry quickly and when I throw them out, nothing drips. They are so convenient that it's hard to think along any other line. I still take her out and she will "do her thing" in the yard. But I don't have to rush to take her out to "do her thing" in my yard.
The housebreaking technique the package suggests is -
1) Begin by placing the pad, blue plastic side down, in a confined area.
2) Place the dog or puppy on the pad a few times to smell the pad and get used to it.
3) If the dog or puppy relieves itself somewhere else, bring it back to the pad immediately.
4) continue to bring the dog or puppy back to the pad to reinforce tthat this is the place to soil. (This didn't take long for me because before I knew it she was always going to the pad.)
5) Once the dog or puppy has learned to relieve itself in the proper place indoors, begin moving the pads, gradually closer to the door and finally outdoors to complete the training process. (I haven't done this as much only because I figure I will continue to use these pads especially throughout the frigid winter months.)
6) Dispose of soiled pads and palce a new one in its place as needed. (This is self-explanatory of course and again quite easy to do.
I bought Hartz Academy Training pads while shopping in Walgreens. Actually instead of 80, this package contained 50 pads for $10, which is what? 20 cents each? I figure it is going to probably cost me a total of maybe $1500 for the life of this dog if she lives to the ripe age of 15 years or beyond.
I don't smoke, I don't drink alcoholic beverages, and I seldom if ever go gambling and figure I can well afford the cost of these pads, which again at my age is going to make my life so much easier so that I can enjoy this life with her as we both grow older together.
Tomorrow my puppy will get spayed. Again, by using these pads it will make it easier for her rather than trying to put on her harness and taking her outside when she will probably be in some discomfort . Plus I bought a pad holder and pads for my sister who will look after my puppy when I go to my writers' meetings and seminars. The only problem there is that she is so in love with my puppy, that she doesn't want her to leave.
Tonight my puppy graduates from her puppy obedience class at Petsmart. My sister and I will have a small party for her afterwards.
