Pros:sturdy, cute, fun little inchworm bike
Cons:not exactly as I remember it
The Bottom Line: A cute little inchworm ride on for little kids
My daughter absolutely loved to ride around the house on her Hog Heaven Wooden Bike. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and we had to return the bike to our friend who had loaned it to us. To replace it, I purchased her the Playskool Kidmotion Bounce 'n Go Inch-A-Long ride-on. My reasons for this choice were purely nostalgic. I had a very similar ride-on as a child, and some of my earliest memories are of this.

About the Kidmotion Bounce 'n Go Inch-A-Long
From Hasbro the Playskool Kidmotion Bounce 'n Go Inch-A-Long is a ride-on suggested for children 2 and up. The suggested retail price is $34.99 and it can be found at most mass-merchandisers. Once assembled the inch-a-long measures 23.25" x 14.5" x 15.25". The inchworm is made of sturdy green plastic with a yellow saddle seat and wheels. The Inch-A-Long can be used in two ways: riding forward or backward using your feet to propel you, or bouncing up and down on it which extends the inchworm's body. There is a weight limit of 50 pounds for the rider.
Our Inch-A-Long Experience
So, since my daughter was very sad to lose her favorite inside ride-on bike I knew I needed to replace it. My Target was all out of the Hog Heaven when I went to look, so I hopped online. Several months ago I had seen Playskool's Inchworm ride on as well as a Radio Flyer one but the prices seemed high to me (between $35 and $40). If I was getting this for a toddler who was just entering ride-on age, I wouldn't have batted an eye and spent that on a good ride-on toy. But, since my daughter is nearly 3 years old I wasn't sure I wanted to go that route. So, imagine my surprise when I saw this Inch-A-Long ride-on was marked down to $12.99 on Amazon.com. I quickly added it to my shopping cart along with a few other items so I could qualify for free-shipping. I was even happier to see that this was part of a special program that they were running on Hasbro toys called the "12 weeks of christmas" and I was able to get another Hasbro toy for free. I picked out a Rose Petal Cottage accessory set priced at $14.99 and got that FREE. So, yeah, give me a pat on the back because this was an amazing deal!! I got a notice that the Inch-a-Long would ship separately direct from Hasbro, and drumroll here it arrived the next day!
The Playskool Kidmotion Bounce 'n Go Inch-A-Long comes with the old adage "some assembly required". Thankfully, it truly just is a little "some" for the inchworm to be up and ready for rding. The inchworm part is one piece and the riding seat comes already attached. The only thing left to do is place in the spacer pegs and snap the wheels on. This process took my husband less than 5 minutes and it looked easy enough that even I could have done this.
Once assembled this new Inch-A-Long ride-on looks pretty similar to my Inchworm bike that I remember from my own childhood, but perhaps it is smaller. They recommend this for children 2-4 years old, though a younger child could probably ride on this as long as their feet could touch the floor. To give you an idea of size, my daughter is just shy of turning 3 years old though she is on the petite side with just over a 12" inseam. She is just able to touch her feet down on the floor when she is riding this so it is a perfect fit with plenty of room to grow before she is too tall or anywhere close to reaching the weight limit (she doesn't even touch 30 pounds yet!).
Since my daughter had been mourning the loss of her Hog Heaven bike when she saw the Inch-A-Long she squealed, "A new worm bike, is it for me?" and then proceeded to hop right on it. Her smile while she sat on top of it the first time was priceless and I knew right then that I had made the right decision. I'd been on the fence about getting her a new ride-on for inside the house thinking that she'd outgrow something like this quickly. But seeing her actually sitting on it and assessing the sizing, it confirmed this is something she'll have for at least another year before she moves up to an actual bike or trike ride-on.
As for riding the Inch-A-Long my daughter is able to propel herself forward or backward using her feet to scoot around my house both on carpet and non-carpetted surfaces. The inchworm is quite sturdy and even though it is narrow I am confident that she isn't going to fall to either side. Unlike most ride-on toys there isn't a steering wheel or handle bars of any kind on the Inch-A-Long. The front of the yellow saddle seat protrude upwards and provides a satisfactory hand-hold. The majority of the time my daughter spends riding on this she is scooting around but occasionally I've caught her hopping up and down on it with the inchworm in a stationary position.
The Kidmotion Inch-A-long in it's current rendition might look like the inchworm of yesteryear, but it is not quite as I remember it. I distinctly recall that bouncing on my inchworm helped to propel the inchworm forward which really isn't the case with Playskool's Inch-A-Long. When a child bounces down on the Inch-A-Long putting their weight onto the seat it causes both the front and rear wheels to move outward. But, when they stand or sit up taking their weight off of the seat the wheels come back in again, returning the inchworm to a retracted position. It also lacks the satisfying Inchworm "crunch" sound that I remember, which maybe I should be thankful for - though it makes me a bit bummed.
Still, regardless of the fact that the Bounce 'n Go Inch-A-Long isn't exactly the Inchworm that I remember from my own childhood, my daughter absolutely loves it. We plan on keeping this indoors because the plastic wheels seem better suited to inside surfaces. For indoor purposes the Inch-a-Long takes up very little space and is super easy to keep clean with its solid plastic exterior. Most of all, this is a ride-on that my little girl loves and it provides a way for her to be active indoors when the weather outside says otherwise.
